bedding.. how much do you have?

we've just moved from 5 bedrooms/3500 sq ft, with a walk-in linen closet (really) to 4 br/2100. We love our new house - it's more manageable as well as modern, clean and a great layout.

But.. we keep unpacking box after box of linens. RIght now, my "normal" largish linen closet is jammed full, with a pile on the floor still to go in. I need help!

So, how many sets of bed linens to keep? I'm thinking 3 sets per child (they leak occasionally), 2 sets for us, 2 sets for guest room. Too much?

What do you have?

Re: bedding.. how much do you have?

  • We don't have kids yet but I have 3 sets for us (although I usually just rotate through 2 out of the 3) and 1 set for the guest room.  I just wash the guest room ones immediately after use and put back on.
  • We also don't have kids yet.

I have 2 sets of "summer" cotton sheets and 2 sets of "winter" flannel sheets for us.  We have 2 sets total of guest sheets, but really only use 1.

I have heard of people storing extra sheets between the mattress and box springs, especially for kids so when they do leak, clean sheets are handy.  I guess as long as it's a leak and not a gusher :)

  • For our house, its a 4 bedroom. We have 3 boys, each have twin beds. I think we have 2 sets per child. And we just rotate them through out their bedrooms since all the sheets are neutral colored. And for us we have 2 or 3 sets since I like to change it up with the colors.

  • I have 3 sets for our bed (one is for winter) and 2 for each of the bedrooms.

I like a backup but not too much extra. You only need one set a time anyways.

  • I recently ( in the Spring) space bagged all of our winter linens to make the closet neater. That way when it comes time to change with the seasons, the winter ones come out, and the summer ones will go in instead. But they are actually being stored away in my storage area, not the linen closet. I think you need at least 2 sets for each bed, regardless of the room. I have had guests leave and a new set later that day arrive, so its handy to have the second set ready. But I started storing them inside the dresser in the guest room in an empty drawer along with the extra pack n play sheets and any extra blankets for that room. It made a lot more room for towels in the hall closet. And as for the kiddos, we all dread that night when they come down with the stomach flu. You are right to keep more for those just in case scenarios.
  • we may be overdoing it but we have 3 sets of flannel sheets and 3 sets of regular sheets...sheets are not generally a priority on the laundry list!
  • I will be no help to you, but we have 5 sets of full size sheets (fit our guest bed and current bed) and 3 sets of queen size sheets (that will fit nothing until we buy our new bedroom set). I wish I could convince DH to toss the 2 full sets he had in college but no luck yet.

  • We don't have kids yet. I have 1 set for our spare room - no one really uses it so when someone sleeps over I just wash it right away.

We have 5 sets for our bedroom but I have 2 comforters - 1 is supposed to be summer and 1 winter but I have yet to change those. I use certain colors with each comforter.

  • no kids yet...3 sets for us. 2 comforters for us. 2 sets for guest room. my problem is i have too many pillows! we could fill the house and everybody could have three! ha ha
