Going to a midnight HP showing?

Is anyone going to a midnight showing tonight?  Or have you been to one in the past?

I'm trying to figure out what time DH and I should get to the theater.  I don't really revel in the idea of standing in line for hours but I also want to make sure he and I get to sit together.  We're going to a 12:10 showing and there's 9 showings starting before ours - the theater is going to be a madhouse.

Re: Going to a midnight HP showing?

  • Last time I went to a midnight showing it was high school and I was in a little theater in the boonies.  I think we were one of like two dozen people there.  None of this is helpful in your decision.

But...yay for midnight showings!   I'd have to take a nap after work in preperation, but I'm sure you're going to have a blast.

  • I got to work early enough today that I have a couple of hours after work before I'll have to get Mia.  I'm weighing whether to use that time to go to the gym or to nap :/

We're definitely going to have to get there early.  Though our theater isn't a big major fancy one, a friend pointed out that it's the only "major" theater in Harford County and every show is totally sold out.  I don't want to sit in the neck-aching seats and I do want to sit with my husband, so I think we're going to end up going early.

I'm taking a big purse and packing snacks, drinks and a book.  DH can bring his iPad loaded with (thanks to another friend's suggestion) HP:DH1.

I'm excited.  It's going to be a bigger "thing" than I'd initially anticipated, but we've never done this before and it's our last chance, so I'm looking forward to it.

MAN am I gonna be tired tomorrow, though.

  • I would say to get there  a little over 1 hour before start time - That s what I did for twilight and it worked - also make sure your  in the RIGHT line as there were so many people and everyone was pissed when they waited in the wrong line . Enjoy - I am  not an HP fan but it sounds like it will be great !
  • I shudder to think how early you'll have to get there.  Well not really shudder I guess lol.  but yeah, I think you'll have to be there early. I've never been to a midnight showing but I'm thinking of a standard opening night for a movie like this, I would try to get there an hour or so before the show (if I had my ticket already bought), and given the fan following this has (as opposed to something like Pirates, which is immensely popular but HP and Twilight etc are different beasts in my mind), and that you said all the shows are sold out - I'm thinking 10 at the latest.

Watch you get there at 9 or 10 and there be no line or anythign until 1150 lolololol.

     Have fun though!! so jealous.

  • I went to see HP 7: part 1 in FL and the theater we went to wasn't too crowed and we got there around 11pm. There were other theaters that had people waiting from 6pm!!!

I know it will totally be different here. We are going to see it at the IMAX in Rockville at 12:10, so I'm sure it will be a madhouse. My brother and I are planning to go around 10.

  • I'm going to call the movie theater a little later and ask what they anticipate, since they've done this before.  My friend's cousin has done this a few times at that particular theater so she offered to call him for any other advice he has, too.  She's already been able to offer us the fact that the parking lot of the theater is going to be packed, so I'm going to have DH drop me off and then go park at the BJ's down the street.

I had no idea what kind of production I was getting myself into, but I think DH is going to be even more taken aback.  Bet it's the last time he agrees to go to a midnight showing with me... though that's fine; I can't imagine wanting to do this again with any other movie.  HP is special.

As much of a PITA the crowds are, it's so much fun!! HP is the only movie I have gone to a midnight showing and it was fun to see all the people dressed up, music playing, games and trivia going on sponsored by the movie theater.   You will have a blast!!

It really is!  I kind of wish I was going to a midnight showing lol. But the last movie in an excellent series of movies based on a really significant and excellent series of books.....yeah, that is special.  And it's going to be mobbed LOL. I honestly would get there the earliest possible, bc it is so much easier to just kind of hang out and watch the theater get crazy then it is to navigate the crazy, kwim?

  • We were planning on getting there by 10:30. I went to one of the midnight showings for HP and the theater was very organized with signs and separate lines for each theater. Have fun!!!!

  • I'd love to go to one, but with DD it's not possible. Mostly because DH would want to go with me/us and we'd have nobody to watch DD.

  • I LOVE midnight showings!! All the crazies show up as well as the people who are just serious fans. I started going to midnight shows for LOTR and have kept it up for many series. This is the first time I'll miss HP at midnight (yea, pregnancy) but I'm going tomorrow so it's still opening day.

Usually I like to get there more than an hour ahead. I have this thing about sitting towards the back (stadium seating only for me) and in the middle of a row. I don't like to be off center. I'm pretty sure for tonight everywhere will be a madhouse...but so worth it! Have fun!!
