Moms: play group activities for a 12-24 month old

Hi ladies:

Anabel will be one in September and I am looking for some activities to take her to so she can start to play and interact with other babies/toddlers.  My mom and DH take turns watching her during the week.  At first I thought some sort of a day care/pre-school center would be good, but at this point none of us are really ready to leave her somewhere--we'd rather take her to an activity and stay with her.

I've found some stuff online that looks really cool--music classes at First Notes and Forever Making Music--but many of the other activities are for kids 2 and up.  So, any recommendations you may have for activities on any day of the week (I'd like to start doing something on weekends as well) in the Abington/Jenkintown area would be really helpful.

Thanks!

  • Check out the libraries in your area.  Most have storytime/ playgroups once a week.  And bonus- they're free!  Some around me even have lunchtime storytime where you can bring your lunch and others even include a craft.

  • Libraries is DEFINITELY a good idea.

Local malls usually have something once a week.  Ours has a kids activity type of thing each Tuesday morning.

Join more local Facebook groups.  I'm friends w/ libraries, malls and local mom groups.   There is ALWAYS something going on....

  • Also there are several meetup.com groups based out of that area that have playgroups and such. Some are at people's homes, some are at public places, etc.

  • These are great--thanks!

  • Becker's outside the Willow Grove Mall offers free puppet and storytime on Tuesday mornings at 11am- I haven't been to it myself because I already take my daughter to another activity during that time frame, but I've heard it's cute.  And it's free- just show up.  They also offer a free music class on Fridays that my daughter absolutely LOVES.  You do need to sign up in advance, but it is free.  The new session starts tomorrow, but you could always see if they have space in either class- there's at 10:30 and a 1pm.  You could call ahead to check...or at least get on a wait list.

  • Kindermusic has classes for your age kids. Google it to see if someone is doing lessons in your area. Also, the Little Treehouse Cafe in Chestnut Hill is a great place for your age group. They do have some classes, but just taking your child to play she will have plently of other kids to play with.
