How can I get my hands on a school supply list?

My sister's kids go to school in North O, the two youngest are at Beveridge, and the oldest is starting 7th grade at McMillan. Any idea how I can get my hands on a school supply list for them? I want to get them some supplies so I know they have what they need. TIA!

Re: How can I get my hands on a school supply list?

  • Oops, the elem. school is actually Belvedere.

  • It might be listed on the schools website, but I know that Target and Walmart both have printouts of the supply lists by grade for every school in the neighborhood.  You may have to go to a store close to the school to find it.

Are you sure its Beverage?  I didn't know there was a Beverage elementary school...there is a Beverage Middle school...maybe Belvedere?

  • Thanks Shannon, I did check the ops and school websites and didnt find anything so I may call the target closest to that area and ask if they have one.
  • OPS doesn't require supplies in elementary (I'm not sure about middle school). Each teacher can request or suggest supplies, but we aren't allowed to say anything is required.

If you want to get stuff early, I would just go off a list from another school district for the same grades - they may or may not need it. Kleenexes are ALWAYS on a teachers "wish list" and some teachers like hand sanitizer.

Thanks for this info Amanda! I have been waiting for a supply list too for R. I feel so unprepared for my baby to be starting kindergarten. Would you suggest like pencils, erasers, glue sticks...I dont even know...its been awhile since I have had to buy anything like that.

  • This is what is on our school supply list for the boys if this help you guys any.  This is my most favorite school related thing, shopping for supplies!  I'm such a geek about it, but I seriously had a mini panic attack over C's list...highlighter and red pens and all those notebooks.  :(  He's still a baby to me!

Are you in OPS? If you are, your school will most likely provide all of those things. The only things my Kindergarten teachers ask for are Kleenex and hand sanitizer. But, we are in North O, and know that 99% of our families don't have the extra money for stuff.

But, if you really really want to get stuff before school starts, I would just get one pack each of: pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and *maybe* a regular bottle of glue. At least those things you can use at home if you don't need them at school. The more Kleenex the better though. That's one thing we don't get much of at the school. (Like 3 small boxes of the thin, hard kleenexes for the ENTIRE YEAR is what we're provided)

You could also call the school and see if they have a recommended list for Kindergarten. They will probably tell you no, it's up to the teacher what is requested, but you could try.

  • Or backpacks!  I have to AT LEAST 7 backpacks every year for my 4 school-aged kids.  It's one of the little kids' favorite things to get, and something that eats up a lot of the school supply budget!

  • Honestly, everything is so cheap this time of year, I'd stock up as much as you can.  I'm a teacher, and even though I now teach at a private Pre-K, I still go out and stock up on stuff b/c I know that I use things throughout the year around the house and they are always much cheaper this time of year.

The above lists are good for elementary grades, but the 7th grader will probably only need some notebooks, folders, pencils & pens, and maybe some colored pencils.  I'm not sure about Omaha b/c I never taught in public schools here, but the 7th grader may need a fancy graphing calculator and those are big $$!
