Alright, an update for those of you who were asking...
I no longer want to throw myself into traffic, this is not as bad as I was anticipating! I am eating a ton of fresh fruit, yogurt, veggies, and more meat than I normally do. These are all things that I've always enjoyed anyway, so its no biggie - its just making them a priority and not just going for whats easiest at the time. That said, for lunch today I had Wendy's chilli (they actually have a pretty substantial gluten free menu).
The hard parts (for me):
Breakfast - I'm not a breakfast eater. I knew I needed to up my protein though, so I just boiled a bunch of eggs and have been eating two every morning for breakfast. It's growing on me.
Snacking - I haaaaaaate not being able to just grab something and snack on it. Last night I wanted goldfish crackers like a mother...but I refrained and ate an orange instead.
We go on vacation on Saturday and I know I'm going to have a hard time then - hello, beer! So, I plan on just going as gluten free as possible.. ![]()
Oh, and for those that wanted to know - my doctor is Susan Keasling @ Lakeside Alegent. I really like her.. so if you're in the market for a primary care doc, I recommend her.
PS: I've lost 3lbs ![]()
Re: gluten free: day 4 (lol)
DUH, I forgot the whole point of this! My anxiety has been minimal, if anything. I'm not sure if its all in my head or if this diet is actually working - but I dont care!
I feel great, especially physically. More energy, just happier in general..
That's awesome!
I stumbled upon a blogger the other day whose DS had similar issues to AJ. We're going to try taking all dairy and all artificial flavors/colors out of our diets. I'm so anxious to see if it helps.
Good job! I'm going to make a consious effort next time I grocery shop to read the labels and try and find some healthier stuff for the kids, free of the dyes and such and as much as I can Gluten free, but I need to read up more on it since I really need to know more about what makes something 'Gluten Free'....
On a side note, I went to lunch today at Jason's Deli and they had a sign up that says "We now offer Gluten Free Bread", so that was interesting.
I'm still kind of a dummy too, but from what I understand - wheat, mostly. That would include pasta, bread, and pretty much anything processed. Basically crap frood.
Woodchuck is!
I'm glad it's going so well! And especially that your anxiety has decreased - that's awesome.
I really want to see what it might do for DH, but he doesn't eat many vegetables to begin with and I'm afraid he will struggle with knowing what to eat. Instead of being strict, maybe I'll start off with what you are doing and just eliminate the obvious basics.
If you are gluten free because of an auto-immune disorder like Celiac (what Peyton has) you have to avoid everything with gluten- wheat, barley, rye, oats, flour, brewer's yeast, bran, any germ, malted milk, malt extracts, I believe orzo, most artificial colors, etc. The list is ridiculously long. But, if it is for Celiac, you also avoid cross contamination, touching things with gluten in them (from using play doh, to using a knife that buttered bread).
Congrats on the loss, and thanks for your doc's name.
