Help! Types of ribs...

Hello all! I'm new to this board and I'm hoping you can help me with this question.

DH and I are having my family over for a cook-out this Sunday and I want to make ribs. I have seen three different types of ribs so far (babyback ribs, shortribs, and western ribs). The recipe I have calls for wrapping the ribs in foil and baking them before putting them on the grill and covering them in BBQ sauce (in case knowing the cooking method helps).

Can you recommend what type of ribs would be best to purchase? Thank you in advance for your help!!

Re: Help! Types of ribs...

  • My guess is you'll want the babyback ribs.  They'll be in one long strip that you can cut down to serve.  When in doubt, ask the butcher though.
  • Pork babyback ribs... if there is a Costco near you, they have them at great prices...

  • They are all a different cut of rib.  Baby back is pork.  I did a quick google search on short ribs and those typically appear to be beef and I found a recipe for western ribs that called for spare ribs.  You will not be able to buy a few racks of baby back ribs and get short ribs & spare ribs out of that rack.  You will need to buy 3 different cuts of meat.
