Anyone local to Hopewell Junction. Help re: Pet Boarding

Hi all. I usually hang out on "Buying A Home" and D&R.

My husband and I are relocating to Dutchess County in about 6 weeks.  We're building a home and it probably won't be ready for about 6 months.  I'm currently in the process of looking for a short term rental but I'm running into a lot of road blocks because I have two large dogs.

My son will be enrolled in Gayhead Elementary so I'm limited to rentals that are zoned for that school.  It looks like I may have to find a place to board my dogs until we close on the house.

Can anyone recommend a pet boarding facility that is within 20 minutes of Hopewell Junction? I'm absolutely devastated at the thought of being away from my dogs for such an extended period, but I'm down to two rentals that allow pets and if they don't agree to a short term lease, I'm back to square one and I need to start looking at other options.  Wherever I board them has to be close enough that I can visit regularly.

TIA for your help!

  • There are a few places in Brewster and I know I passed 2 on 55 heading into Poughkeepsie also.

Currently our dog is at a place in Dover Plains for training (been there since June 24th) but not sure if they do regular boarding or just training for hunting.

I don't think this is 20 minutes or less but I have meet with them on a few occasions. If I had to board long term I would be calling them to see what they had to say. I'm not sure if you have big or little dogs. This is a place used to big dogs.

    Good luck

  • We used Pegasus Woof and Purr once in Poughkeepsie when we were away for a week. It's also a horse farm.... so they have a decent amount of property. They board the dogs in a winterized barn type style house. They have the dogs in pretty large stalls.... I don't remember how much or really any other details about it though.

  • i second pegasus, i work at a vets office and we send clients there...

also a friend of mine was buying a house and the school her kids were switching to allowed her kids to go there even though she didnt currently live there. that way she didnt have to switch 1/2 way through the year. she just had to drive her kids both way. i guess the school just needed to see proof that she was moving there soon. so i would call the school and ask about this.
