What do you think of this?

I heard this story first on Monday, and just was checking to see if there were any new developments.  Im not sure how I feel about the fact that he knew he was not to be riding most of the attractions there and did anyway. One part of the story even says when entering the park he refused an informational pamphlet of safe riding for handicapped stating that he "already had one".  The fact that his family seems un-shaken bothers me too. His sister said that the minutes before his death were probably the happiest in the past 3 1/2 yrs hes had. And while I  believe that  something just seems fishy to me.

Re: What do you think of this?

  • Hey-That website is where I get all my local news and weather updates!

I think the park isn't getting charged with anything, which means they must believe the rider is at fault.  I wouldn't say he killed himself...but he must have understood the risks....right?

DH said this is the 2nd time someone has died on that ride.  The first time was an obese man and the safety harness didn't latch properly.

I will never ride that ride!  I like other roller coasters at that park, but it really makes me rethink riding any roller coaster...it's not worth my life!

  • This is confusing to me. The safety thing for the ride says you must have two legs and he obviously didn't. Why did they let him on it thn? Very odd.

I read an article a few days ago, but I forget. Was he above the knee or below the knee amputee? Maybe if it was a below the knee amputee the ride attendant figured he had a lap so he was good to go. Not that its an excuse.

  • It said his left was completely gone and the right was most along with part of a hip.

That's so sad but I feel like he knew what he was doing you know...I mean he specifically stopped at guest services to ask some questions and then didn't want the phamplet and then saw the signs before he got on the coaster about having legs.

Did he think that with loops and stuff that just a harness would be enough?  I would've definitely said something as an operator but maybe they did and they haven't reported that part yet.

With the other man they said because of his large size the cross bar could not be securely closed.  Not sure why the person checking wouldn't have told him sorry you can't ride.

When I went to Hershey Park with my friends and B had me convinced that I wouldnt fit on the roller coaster this is all I thought about on the rides that specifically said persons of large bodies may not ride.  I was so freaked out on one of the coasters I refused to ride it a second time while everyone else did.

This is precisely why I like Cedar Points policy. Before you even get in line there is someone at the entrance with one of the seats if you look questionable ie too short, too large, no legs etc you sit in it and if they can buckle you and close all the safety mechanisms then you get in line. Otherwise it is a strict NO.
