Day 5 of blow-out nightmare

DS has had diarrhea for 5 days now.  Monday I thought it was from teething (getting 2 bottom molars), but it has continued and now has turned into non-stop blowouts.  I've been doing BRAT diet and Culturelle... what else can I do?  Not to mention the diaper rash on this kid, poor thing!  I have been cleaning his clothes, crib sheets, changing pad as well as a host of things he's climbed on before I discovered these ongoing blowouts, I'm exhausted!  He does not seem dehydrated and is drinking lots of juice and water and eating normally.  I'm calling the nurse this morning, but I can't imagine what else I can do to help him.  :(

Re: Day 5 of blow-out nightmare

  • I would maybe try cutting out the juice. I know that juice loosens my kids up if they drink to much. Sorry, I don't have any other advice. I hate dealing with diarrhea! Good Luck!

  • Are you keeping him home from daycare? you dont want the other kiddies to get sick - seems like intestinal bugs spread like crazy. That would be the first thing.

Pedialyte? I would say no more juice, since juice can excaerbate the runs. We have given Owen immodium for kids before, but I'm not sure of the age cutoff for it.

    Hmm, what else.....his poor bum!

Oh yes, this is week 1 of our 2 weeks of no daycare, so he's been home with my dad all week (fortunately).

I'll cut out the juice, he's been drinking tons of water.  Hopefully the Culturelle helps.  I've never seen a diaper rash so bad!

  • For the bad rash -- this sounds weird, but try mixing equal amounts of liquid Maalox/Mylanta and vaseline/Aquaphor in a baggie and putting that on his bum as a paste.  The mixture should soothe the sores and heal without stinging like diaper cream might.
