Where to have 1st birthday party?
Ok I have some time, but we would like to celebrate Max's 1st birthday in Philly. We'd rather not have it hosted at our parents' (we want to avoid the tug of war of who gets to host) and we're sort of open to any place.
We don't want it to be over the top, since he won't remember it (and because we don't want to spend $$$$$)
Where to start??
We're thinking lunch-maybe 50 people max
Re: Where to have 1st birthday party?
We had the kid's party at a park in our neighborhood that had a huge covered pavilion and a big playground to keep the kids entertained. The rental fee was only fifty dollars and we brought our own food and decorations in.
It worked out well because the kids were entertained while the parents could just just hang out at the pavilion and keep an eye on the kids in the playground. I'm not sure what parks you could use in Philly but I think someone did something similar at Franklin Square in Philly this year....maybe Anna?
Maggiano's or Buca di Beppo in CC if you are looking at just taking folks out to lunch, and you can do a family style set up.
Perhaps rent a hall (like a Mummer's club) and bring in your own food (Sweet Lucys, etc.)
OMG i want to. I can imagine FIL though. "ooohh....we couldn't find parking on South Street, it was such a pain! Ooohhh we gotta go UPstairs? This is interesting..."
we went to a baby shower there it was fun! they brought in food, and had a paid bar upstairs but paid for water/soda i believe.
as for parking a sunday afternoon isn't that bad (since all the side streets off of ss are free) and there is a paid parking lot right next door.
oh, i know all of this. i also know my FIL.
world cafe live
if there are lots of either little kids: smith playground's inside house
bartram's: coach house space or barn
north bowl (that's our possible plan for milo's birthday unless we have a new house by then)
Tattooed mom's sounds awesome.
Only thing I can think of is Discovery Museum.
we just did ariana's 1st bday at franklin square...i wanted an outside space with as little work on my part as possible and i wanted something really fun for the kids. they charge a base price of $250 for the party that includes up to 25 guests and a tented area with some tables. that includes bracelettes for unlimited merry go round and a round of mini golf. the playground was awesome and they had a ball. you cant bring any of your own food or drinks in though...and they were a little pricey. i ordered pizza from them and kept it simple. i had around 30 guests (kids and adults combined) and it was less than $500.
i called around to the zoo, ptm, etc and they were alot more $
good luck
