::LLHR:: re: Harry Potter (no spoilers)
How was the movie? How was the theater? Were there many people lined up waiting to be seated? I saw on your FB that there weren't many people there early. What time did you finally get home?
Trying to help your post count!
Re: ::LLHR:: re: Harry Potter (no spoilers)
Thanks for the post count boost!
We got there right around 10, there was plenty of parking and the theater had lines roped off outside. It turns out that by the time we got there our showing (12:10) had already been let into the theater - they were going backwards by time for some reason - so DH and I just got into the line filtering into the theater, had our tickets ripped, and went in.
Inside we could go straight into our theater, which was nice. No standing in line or sitting on the floor. We walked in and, at first, didn't see anyone - I said "seriously? we're the first ones here?!" and a teenager popped up from the corner and yelped "yay! people!" He was the only person for our showing to line up in the parking lot early and he sat there for 2 hours by himself.
The trend continued - people kept coming in expecting a large theater teeming with people and there were only a handful of us there. I went to the snack bar and the restroom in the two hours we sat there and didn't stand in line for long at either. Both got pretty packed around 11:30, but the theater handled it all really, really well.
All in all, we sat in the theater itself for just about 2 hours. Which was boring. But DH put DH1 on the iPad before we left the house and we watched that while we waited and chatted with the people around us, so it wasn't completely terrible.
The manager came in during the commercials/trivia portion and stressed the importance of turning off cell phones, which I appreciated. Then the movie got stuck on the "please turn off your cell phones" frame, which I didn't appreciate. I finally went out into the lobby to get someone because it was stuck for what seemed like forever.
It turned out that they started every theater at the same time, so even though folks bought for the 12:01 showing, it started at the same time as the 12:12 showing.
Absolutely no one moved while the movie was on. The movie picked up exactly where 7.1 left off and started a little slow for me, but once they got to a certain point, it picked up a great deal. I think that the movie crew did an absolutely phenomenal job leaving in the important things and culling the things that were okay to cull. My favorite parts were all included, the theater cheered and laughed and sniffled in unison. I was a freakin' mess. My throat hurt from the strain of trying not to break down into sobs. Take tissues.
At the end everyone clapped and all of the theaters spilled out together. It was crazy to walk out and see people lined up in the lobby for the 2:30 and 3am showings!
The parking lot was a total flustercuck because there's only two exits, of course. There were cops there helping, but it was just like leaving a concert or sporting event - lots of cars, little space. Ultimately it only took us 20 minutes to get out of the lot, so it wasn't terrible.
We got home around 3am and went to bed around 3:30.
LLHR pretty much summed it up! We got there around 10pm, they let us in around 10:30, so not a lot of waiting in line.
There was a real life duel once we were seated between Harry and a Deatheater. The treats trolley came around once people were seated. People were dressed up in many costumes as well as lightening bolts on their foreheads.
It was total silence while the movie was on! It was amazing!! People clapped at certain parts and at the end. It did wish they had added in some parts that I thought were poignant, but they did to a great job of keeping with the book!
There was a 3am show right after ours and my brother and I considered it, but we were already beat!
