I have a question and I hope to not offend you by it.

When you had DD, I remember looking at her pictures and definately seeing your husband.  No questions who the daddy was.

My question, could you really see it and did it drive you crazy everyone telling you all the time?

DS looks a lot like DH.  I knew it from the 3D ultrasounds but it is starting to get under my skin that everyone keeps telling me how much he looks like DH.  Not that I mind he looks like his dad but I carried him for 9 months!  There has to be a little of me in there...somewhere.

And, I look at him and I really can't see it.  I just see my baby.

Just wondering.

  • :::butting in:::::

I am having this same issue. The first thing my MIL and DH's family say when they come over is, "Wow! Ry you look just like your daddy!"  I think it bothers me because in fact he looks EXACTLY like my father and a lot like me. I see my dad every time I look at him. I am not sure why it bothers me so much but it does.

DD on the other hand looks exactly like DH.

When I see Holly's kiddos, I think they look exactly like her DH. I am pretty sure I tell her a million times. She knows she can tell me to f*ck off though. Stick out tongue

  • ~I'm butting in too~

My daughter looks exactly like my husband & it used to drive me nuts too when people would say she looks just like him.  That being said she definitely has my personality & I couldn't be happier.  I'll take her looking like him (he's much cuter than I am) & having my personality any day!  You'll get used to it sooner or later.

  • I joke that I'm going to get him a shirt that says...Yes, I know.  I look like my dad.

I love my husband and of course I found him attractive but like I said.  Can't something be like me?  I'm just happy he has some red hair and claiming it has my family's red hair!

  • Alot of times they switch as they get older too. In Amy's recent family pics I think her daughter looks a ton like her. So maybe as your son gets older he'll start to resemble you or at least take on your personality. And you never know with future children either. My brothers look nothing alike.
  • Kids facial features can slightly change as they grow. It bugged.the.sh!t. out of me that everyone said that C looked JUST like my DH, but honestly now...he looks quite a bit more like me. (at least in my mind he does).

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who has these feelings

OMG...I'm sitting at my desk laughing! Stick out tongue   In MY little world he SOOOO looks like me & acts like DH.

  • You are not alone!  I swear I don't believe she is mine sometimes.  She looks just like DH, acts just like DH, eat, sleeps, poops like DH...the older she gets the more like him she gets. I swear that she's a little mini me (DH) in a girls body!  We hear everywhere we go how much she looks like him...family, friends, complete strangers...it's ridiculous.  I keep telling myself that someday I'll have a little boy that will look and be just like me!  Time will tell...

  • I think the majority of babies look like their dad's until they hit around 2ish.  That's what happened with both my kids (DS still looks like my husband at 16 months).
  • I've read that in nature babies usually look most like the father so that the father doesn't kill the baby. I know, random comment, but it's very common.

That is great!  That must be it though.  One thing for sure...you definately not question who his dad is.  No paternity test needed for this Jerry Springer Show episode!

I have read this theory too, but more from the angle that the kid looks like the father so the father knows it's his and he will have a biological/physical and emotional connection to it.

  • Butting in also :)My DD looks exactly like my husband and his side of the family...and everyone talks about it and has from the moment she was born!! Sometimes people even apologize before they say it which I find so strange!! It really did mess with my mind when she first arrived, I had imagined her to look exactly like me...dark hair and eyes...instead, I had this little dirty blonde with what turned out to be green eyes. I sometimes had a hard time connecting with the fact that she was mine, which I know is weird b/c I carried her for nine months!Today, at 3 1/2...there are definitely traits that are similar...our tongues, she has my mom's curly hair, my attitude :) and I think she's beautiful!!! I'm also SO curious about what this next little girl will look like (due 9/10/11)!

This cracks me up! Do you know how many times i hear that J looks just like O, and O looks just like DH so c'mon. Apparently everyone thinks the kids look like DH. It doesn't bother me one bit but at the same time there are definately times when I see myself in the kids. That's the beauty of God's work, truely children of both parents :)

  • Yeah, I totally feel your pain.  It's so petty, but it really annoyed me.  Not enough to actually say anything (that'd be bratty), but it did annoy me for sure.

I think what it was for me is that (like you said) I carried her for 9 months, and I honestly expected her to come out looking like me.  I dont know why, it just never even entered my mind that she'd come out looking like him.  I thought I'd see a baby with a head full of dark hair..  not so much. :)  It's just weird to see something YOU created (in your body, that is) not look like you.

And even though this doesnt make sense, when people would constantly say, "OMG, that is Ryan!" I wanted to scream, "Yes but she's mine too, in fact I'm the one that just spent the last hour feeding, burping, and changing her..."

    LOL, so lame!

It'll get better.  His looks will change so much in the next year, I bet he ends up resembling you as well. :)

  • Butting in and late to the party! I love when kids resemble their parents!! I got lucky that D is my mini me and J is DH mini.......like almost to a T and the funny thing is me and Dh look nothing alike yet I think my kids look a like. Sometimes I look back at baby pics and think the pic could pass for either kid!
