Who fixes Wood Floors?

My Hardwood Floor looks like it needs to be refinished. The coating seems to have wore off in parts (I don't know if I was cleaning it wrong) and I have tried everything. It looks like I will need someone to clean it up and put a new finishing on it.

Does anybody know anyone that does this and is good?

Re: Who fixes Wood Floors?

  • What have you been using to clean your floors?  How old are they?

Water and white vinegar is the simplest/cheapest way to clean them and really you only need to spot clean them, otherwise just dry mop.  I have read good things about Bona hardwood floor cleaner, but I am too cheap to buy it, when the water and vinegar work fine.

If you really think that they need to be re-finished, it's a pretty major job- like leave the house for 3 or 4 days.  They will have to sand the old finish off and then put on 2-3 coats of poly.  We had the floors in our house re-finished before we moved in, it was expensive and smelly. We used Floorever Wood, http://www.bloglines.com/company/25919582/Floorever.Wood.Columbia.MD.410-715-9663/  We got a good price, but it was still a 1k + job, that took 3 days.

I have heard great things about Beers Hardwood floors, and I think if I had to go back I would have gotten a quote from them as well.

We only had time to get 2 coats of poly put down, I wish we had started sooner, so we could have gotten 3, eventually we will have the floors buffed so they can put a 3rd coat down, but it will be a while.

  • I have no idea how old they are.. they came with the house. Looked beautiful still do but feel dry in spots and in parts it looks like the coating has come off.. the wood itself is fine.

I clean it with either a mob and Pinesol water, going over it with a dry mop right after or I use the Swiffer with the Hardwood cleaner on it.

Twice I have used the Bona Conditioner to keep the floor in good condition. But apparently I did something wrong.
