Feel free to read my long post below, but let me sum up:
I hate my job & have been waiting 8+ weeks to hear about another potential (DREAM) opportunity in a new industry for me.
Well the other day I took the intiative & wrote a follow-up Email to last week's notification that they would be calling my references. I heard back & the head of the company asked me if I was familiar with a particular software they used. I wrote him back & said I was & described my experience with it. He wrote me back again an hour later asking about ANOTHER software they use, and again I wrote him back describing my experience.
THEN he called me this morning & said he (and really he said it was one of the other managers who brought it up) just wanted to clarify what the position was and make sure I had a good understanding of what I would be asked to do, and how my role fit in with the company's goals & other people's work. I told him I had felt I had a good understanding of the position after talking to him & the other associates at my interviews and knew that it was a role that would require me to wear multiple hats & participate in various aspects of a project.
He told me the other manager (who wanted to clarify the position with me) was going to be in the office later this afternoon & that they were going to discuss it & get back to me soon.
The call today seemed weird to me, but about 3 weeks ago on LinkedIn I saw that someone else posted that he just started at that company in the position that I am applying for, so now I wonder (suspect?) if they hired that guy, and HE didn't have a good understanding of the position, and left right away, so the position is open again, and I am their 2nd choice....? Or maybe before making an offer they just want to be really clear? Am I over thinking this? ((LOL--probably!)) Or does it seem weird to anyone else?
Re: Update! (to my long post below)
My Blog
Technically it's possible, but I don't think it's likely bc:
-it's a pretty small company (only 30 ppl)
-they've only had 1 person in this role for the past, like, 5 years & when I asked in the interview they said their work has increased & she is overworked so they were now wanting to bring someone in with experience to help her (I have pretty much the same exact experience as the girl who works there now did when she first started--maybe a little more since I've been in my industry longer--she also came from my industry)
-when I interviewed I specifically asked about the group/team I'd be working with, and there was no mention of multiple people in that role other than the girl who already works there, and I would think if they were hiring multiple people, they'd mention that in the interview.
...although you never know! Companies have been known to do strange things
It does sound to me that the one person wasn't a fit and perhaps he left and they want to avoid the same situation. What does his linked in profile say now? Does it still say he is at the company? Were you able to talk with the girl you wouild be helping? I would make sure you get all of the info you need to make a good decision as well, and don't ignore any red flags.
