Surgery Registry

We have wedding registries, baby registries, birthday registries it seems and now....surgery registries??

A girl I know is having elective surgery (gastric bypass) and she put on her facebook a link to her surgery registry because people have been asking what she needs. I know people have purchased things because I just pulled it up.

Am I the only one that finds this very odd?

(FWIW there's a bunch of random stuff like books and pudding, but then there's an ice chest, a mortar/pestal, a lunch bag....is this not stuff she'll need way after surgery. Weird).

  • Not trying to go off on a tangent but this is what really irks me about people these days.  Everyone is so entitled and selfish.  Why on earth should I buy you things for an elective surgery your having?

I could understand if I was a close friend and asked what kind of magazines she liked or if she wanted me to rent her a dvd's from redbox but seriously??

And some of those things you know she just wanted...it's not a need for a recovery ugh tacky

  • I completely agree with Cole!
  • This is tacky.  Im all for taking friends and family a gift (card, flowers GC) in the hospital but its elective surgery AND to ask for it? Rude.

    Totally agree...

The thing that really bothers me is that the Bariatric patients that I have encountered who have had this surgery are so freaking, needy, demanding and manipulative. I'm not saying that this person is or that they all are (my mom had gastric bypass and I've considered it myself).

Couldn't agree more!  If you've been a good friend to people, they'll just want to help you out of the goodness of their hearts.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that found it odd! If my good friend had surgery (elective or not) I'd be over there with magazines, dvds, popsicles, etc., but putting up a request on your facebook for things?? Not okay.

I really like this girl too, but this really just rubbed me the wrong way.
