vacuum

We are looking to buy a small hand held vacuum- mostly to clean the stairs and small messes.  We have a dog so hair is an issue.  We saw a couple at walmart but then researched them and found that they seem to break after a couple uses.  We don't want to spend a fortune on something that won't get used all the time.  Does anyone have suggestions?  We want corded- not battery operated.  The ones we were looking at were Shark brand and around $50.

Re: vacuum

  • We have a newfoundland and a golden retriever so tons of hair.  I will only buy Shop Vacs after spending thousands of dollars buying vacuum after vacuum that last a month or 2 at most.  Shop Vac makes many different models and we use the All Around for stairs and everyday use - it's light and portable.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I'm another Shop Vac fan.  We have one that's maybe 1 or 2 gal. capacity, but wow, it works great.  Also works for sucking up liquids and you can use it as a blower (we use it to dry our cars and blow out the garage).  Multi-purpose, powerful, tons of attachments and add-ons if you want 'em, and only something like $30 at Lowes.  I would get an extension to the hose at the outset though, it really helps.  The only drawback, is that it doesn't have a rotating "beater bar" but we use a lint brush to loosen the really ground in fur, so that isn't really a drawback.

Oh and I have a cat and a husky (see adorable photos in siggy). That's how we keep up with the non-stop crazy fur-fest that is everyday life in our house.

  • ditto to the shop vac....we registered for and received a small one from target for a wedding gift, nothing compares to their suction power and quality
