Runners/Walkers I have a ?
I haev no where to run near my home so I have to drive somewhere (outside- I don't have a gym membership) Typically I have been going to a neighborhood right behind our little downtown area. But here is my dilema....
What the heck do I do with my car keys? I only take the car key and the key fob to get back into the car (alarm goes off if I use the key) and I have been triple knotting it onto my shoelaces but the noise and bouncing feeling makes me nuts!
Any suggestions?
Re: Runners/Walkers I have a ?
My favorite running shorts have a small pocket on the inside of the waistband. They are Filas brand from Kohls. They have a built in underwear (seriously, try it, it's awesome to not have wedgies and still have extra coverage).
Before I had those shorts, I'd tied my house key on my shoelaces or carry it in a pocket if I had them. It didn't bother me, but my house key is smaller than a key with a keyfob would be. When I drive to the park to run with girlfriends I put my car key in the pocket (but it's a fob and key all in one deal) and leave my other keys in the glove box.

I used to put the key ring on a finger, like a ring, and just kind of hold the key in my hand. I would just bring the car key and key fob (same alarm issue) and lock everything else in the car.
All that said, back when I'd run, I ran on a track and could see my car in the lot for like 99% of the course around the track so I never worried too much.

Last summer it was running, this summer it's been walking
but I always have to have my inhaler and my key when I go.
For me, I tuck the key into the corner of the upright part of my inhaler and then put the whole thing upside down into the "iPod" pocket of my shorts, capris, pants that I have on. (Kohl's has a lot of variety of clothing with that little pocket built in.
ETA: this pocket is at the interior of the waistband, so the waistband holds it to your side and you can feel it (not uncomfortable) so you'd know the moment it wasn't there.
If you just have the key and FOB, you could attach it to a carribeaner (sp?) type clip and clip it through the headphone cord hole above the pocket and then tuck the key into the pocket (I've done that be for too and you know the key won't fall then.)
I have a RoadID shoe pouch! I love it, I can fit my key and I normally carry a couple dollars or my debit card with me. It is pretty inexpensive, and I would suggest getting the ID band too! I don't feel it bouncing around and there is no added weight. I also have also seen sports bras that have a zipper pouch for your key or anything else.
This is what I have:
3/4 of the time I have to take P with me, so I just put the key in the zipper pouch in our jogging stroller. My long run I go from the store and we have a key box there. I know that doesn't help!
I do have some running skirts (best thing ever, by the way) that have pockets. Some have zippered pockets.
Also, I always take water and my inhaler with me; I got this water bottle with a pouch kind of like this one.
2012 Reading Challenge
When I run at the trail by my house, I don't take a key at all.
When I run at run club, I take my key and keyless entry off my main keychain (leave in the car) and put in the key pocket in my shorts or running tights depending on time of year.
Before I had shorts/pants with key pockets (designed so the key won't come out) I would tie the key/keyless entry to my drawstring cord and tuck inside my shorts. Kind of annoying, but you get used to it.
I think Crystal's got the right idea though, if I didn't do shorts w/ bloomers and key pockets I probably would have gotten one by now. But I highly recommend trying out running shorts per Jo's rec, they are so much more breezy than wearing underwear and you almost never get wedgies!
I love my water bottle and pouch.
I also have a key pouch that attaches to my shoe that I just put my car key in. The rest of my keys are in my purse which is in my car hidden away.
Sometimes, if I go for a short run, I will put my car key in my sports bra.
I've used a key pouch for my shoe before (like Crystal) and my good shorts & my capris all have a key pocket. That said, I almost never run without my phone (after the great foot breaking incident of 2009) so I wear this . you really can't feel it and it hold my phone, keys,a nd had room for more. I also sometimes wear a waist camelback which can also hold my keys/phone.
ETA: before i had shorts w/ keypockets, i carried my key all the time. you don't notice it much if you loop the ring over your finger and kind of lightly hold it in your fist.
This is what I do too.
