Do you LOVE your Kindle or Nook?
I am kind of a book "purist" and like reading actual books. However, so many people are raving about the ereaders that I am considering one. If you have one, do you love it and why? Also, is yours backlit?
Re: Do you LOVE your Kindle or Nook?
I too am a book purist, I love my collection of books and was torn when looking at a Kindle. I have had my Kindle for about a month and I really do like it. It is not backlit, I have a book light. I really wish that there was a backlit switch but it's not a huge deal. I got the one with the internet and downloads are super easy!
Let me know if you have questions.
OKAY! Explain to me how these work. IE- how does the WiFiwork on it? I don't get it, call me a chocolate blonde but I just don't! LOL And do I have to pay for it? The WiFi. I have thought of getting one myself, but I don't know how much I'd actually use it to justify the money.

I have an e-reader function on my I-Pad and while it's convenient - the books are way too expensive for a cheapy like me!
It's totally magic, I don't know how it works but you can get on FB and check email, etc. It's not a touch screen so it's not wonderful, but it gets the job done if you need. No, the internet on it is free, also magic! It also has wifi but I have not used that yet. The 1st year on Maddie's life I didn't even pick up a book and I am totally a reader. Now, I have more time and it's great to throw in my bag and have with me if I am waiting to meet with a client of before bed, etc.
I too am fairly cheap and currently have downloaded free books (classic's like jane Austen who is my total fav author) and I also have gotten a lot of the .99 chick lit books. I won't pay full price for e-books....that's just me.
Kala I LOVE that you know me well enough to know that I need things explained to me as a 3yr old! LOL I'm totally cracking up!
I thought a NOOK, you COULD get free books from the PL?
I was torn about getting one because I really love reading actual books. My parents gave me a Kindle for Christmas 2 years ago and I have really loved having it. I don't use it for anything other than books (no magazines or anything) and I still read a lot of actual books, but it has been so handy. I love being able to just put it in my purse to have something to read when I am waiting and it was a lifesaver when I go on trips. I did buy a cover (more for the feel than for protection) and that helped me a lot to have a "real" book feel.
Let me know if there is anything I can help out with!
i have the old school nook and an iPad. Love them both!!
with the nook you can get library books and it also has a lend me feature where you can lend books to your friends via email addresses.
i would highly recommend at least perusing the nest book club board. this question gets asked quite frequently and there is a lot of good information over there.
also - i love the actual book as well. the nook/ipad have been more of a supplement vs. replacing my books.
I would consider myself a book purist as well. The problem with books is that they are expensive and they take up a lot of room. My DH was sick of having books tucked and stacked in every corner of our house so he bought me a Kindle for Christmas. At first I didn't use it because I was skeptical but then I went on a trip to Seattle in February and it was the greatest thing ever. I could take tons of books, it autosaves your place for you, it has a built in dictionary (because I'm one of those freaks that has to look up every word she doesn't 100% know the definition of), it has an audio feature where it will read the book outloud to you, and I have the 3G so I can download news books anywhere.
Mine is not backlit but DH also got me a cover for it that has a little light that pulls out and works great. Another bonus is I can now read in bed next to him without disturbing him. The e-books are always at least 1/2 price or lower than what the hard cover books would be to buy in the store and I have them delivered to me instantly instead of having to stop and B&N or Target to actually pick up the book.
I have to say, even though I didn't think I would, I love my Kindle.
ETA: Just wanted to add that you can also share books from Kindle to Kindle just like you can with the Nook to Nook. The major downfall of the Kindle IMHO is that you cannot currently check out library books to your Kindle, you can do this for most library e-books for your Nook or Ipad. Kindle is in the process of updating their software so that you will be able to check out library books, but it's not a current feature.
