  • Where in Atlanta? I am guessing Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead area?

  • MF Sushi is very popular here and probably the most well known. Bluefin and Rise Sushi also come up but are smaller places.

I haven't been to Rise yet but have heard good things. It's also near the convention center.

  • if Dunwoody/Atl isn't too far, Sushi Mio or Goldfish
  • Sushi House Hayakawa is our favorite, because the quality is unbelievably good.DH is half Japanese and has lived in Japan; he's pretty critical of Japanese food.

However, there are a lot of great sushi places in Atl. Yelp is a great way to find one in the area you prefer.

How is the service when you go there? I took Dh here once on his Birthday because it's rated highly on Yelp. It took forever for us to get food ,drinks, etc. I was so disappointed. Maybe I should give it another shot?  Have you guys tried Bishoku in Sandy Springs? It's my fav but it's going to be closed when the OP's boss is here in town.

Well, we live two hours away from Atl and don't get there often, so we've only been to SHH twice ( as we like to try different places each time) but.......seriously? I'm both sorry and suprised tto hear that. We've had very good service both times, particularly the last time. I told the server I was pregnant and she went out of her way to help me pick out a roll I could eat safely. She even made sure the chef left off the roe, which I didn't know pregnant women aren't supposed to eat. It sounds like they were understaffed the night you went and IMO it's worth another shot. Art, the head chef (and owner IIRC) loves his customers; he comes out and chats with them personally when he can.

We didnt know about Bishoku! I'm surprised because the doctor we went to for this IVF is in SS. However, in case you're interested here are the ones we did try: Sushi Bar Yu-Ka (very good), Shoya Izakawa (very good), Umezono (good, we go there most often b/c it's next to the Japanese bookstore we frequent, Tomo (pretty good food but overpriced and bad service), Bluefin (awful food, hated it)

  • Oh, one other place: Miso Izakawa in the old Fourth Ward. Trendy and fun, more like a nightclub, food not really authentic Japanese but lors of Japanese liquours on the menu. Still, the food and service were very good.

  • My favorite sushi restaurant that I've been to is Thaicoon, but it's in Marietta. I think they have one in Atlanta on Briarcliff Road (not sure if it's the same quality/experience), but the Marietta one has HUGE, fresh sushi--not like a lot of places that serve tiny, pale, raggedly cut pieces. It's worth a shot to look into the Atlanta one. This really makes me want to go right now actually...
