Speaking of heat, what is your A/C set to?

I feel like ours is going non-stop, but the house is just HOT!  We really need to do something about the sucktastic insulation we have...

I have it set to 74 all day/night (from about 8 a.m. til 4 p.m, and then 10 p.m - 5:00 a.m) in between those times, its 72, cooler for getting ready in the morning/when we come home from work until bedtime.

Re: Speaking of heat, what is your A/C set to?

  • 79 all the time.  Our house must be excellent at keeping the heat out because it feels good and I am a hot blooded person.

  • When we are home its 76 and I think 78 at night/during the day. Not sure because I don't check it much. It usually doesn't bother me except around 5 am I start to get really hot so we have our bedroom fan always going at night.
  • 74 during the day, 71 at night
  • 76 all day usually...some times I turn it up to 79 during the day while we are gone, and then sometimes it goes down to 75 at night. Before we got the new freon changed/added, we had to set it at 70 to get it to be cool enough in the house. The new freon made a huge difference.

  • Ours is set at 71-72 during the evening or overnight...with a new baby I won't go any warmer then this for sleeping.  During the day it is in the upper 70's and is set to cool when we get home from work.  Even with this heat our air hs not had to run much at all with the extra insulationw e did which is nice!
  • 74 when we are gone, 72 when we are home and 72/70 at night.

I haven't really noticed a difference in our electric bill, but our furnace is also electric so that's probably why.

  • I'm terribly hot-blooded, and our second-floor bedroom must be cool for me to be able to sleep, so it's at 68 during the day and 63 at night. Thank goodness for the LES budget plan!

    76. I'm home pretty much all the time so it doesn't change much but when school starts back up we'll up it to 80 or so during the day when we're not around. Ophelia likes to sleep downstairs where it's cool so I don't feel too bad letting it be hot.

  • We are at 71 at night and 76 during the day.

When I was hugely preggo last year at this time, I had it at 69 at night with our bedroom ceiling fan going as well as a fan on my nightstand blowing on me.  I was one hot preggo lady.

  • Ours is set at 76 during the day and 73 when we're home.  I remember reading somewhere that setting the temp anymore than a few degrees apart doesn't really save any money as far as energy goes due to having to get up or down to the temperature when it switches.  So, we have ours set 3 degrees different.

  • Normally 76, but when it's this hot, I do 77 because it feels cold in the house.  I guess it depends how efficient your house is!
  • 72 during the day and 70 at night.

  • We just got a new heat pump a couple months ago, been setting it at 77. But this week 75. We used to keep it at 70 but the bills for our 850 square foot house was waaaay to expensive.

  • Guess we are the cheap ones here.  78-80 during the day and 76 at night.
  • Ours is at 76 all the time (i am home during the day).  Sometimes I bump it up to 78 during the day if I am feeling cool enough

  • Ours is 78 all the time.  Our basement gets so cold I have to use a blanket.  We have a ceiling fan and stand fan going at night but it's plenty cool.

  • Usually 78, but we'v been dropping it to 76 at night.

We also have ceiling fans in each bedroom and 2 in our main part of the house.  I think the fans really help keep the air temperature feeling cooler.  And a dehumidifer in the bsmt.

  • Ours is usually between 72-74. Yesterday & today its been at 71 and I still think it feels warm. I will probably turn it back up and move my office to the basement in a bit.

  • 79 round the clock...if it seems humid in the house I bump it down to 77 for an hour or two, and then back up to 79.
