Need help deciding: flight to San Fran - window or aisle?
I've put in a travel request for a conference in San Francisco in September. I've never flown to the Left Coast. I usually prefer aisle when I travel, because I like the freedom of getting up and down when I want without disturbing anyone. On the other hand, it's been many moons since I took a flight longer than like 2 hours... is there any advantage to a window seat on a long flight? (traveling solo).
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

I personally like window seats because I like to lean on the "wall." I don't generally get up during flights, so the aisle doesn't appeal to me as much.
Also, I'm totally jealous that you get to go to San Fran on the company dime.
I'm all about the aisle. I hate being sandwiched in at the window and have to ask one or more people to move if I need to go to the bathroom, stretch my legs, whatever.

Same. Of course, with my luck/budget I'm always over the wing and don't get much of a view. But I do love watching the scenery during take-off and landing.
If you want to nap, pick the window. Otherwise, there isn't much benefit.
I always opt for aisle because of more room and I don't like being stuck if my row mates are sleeping.
I love the window seat for the coast to coast legs. 3 reasons:
1) You control the window. When you're napping in the aisle seat and the person at the window has the slider open and you're being blasted with full on sun, it'll be impossible to sleep.
2) You don't get bumped around by people's children, the drink cart, some guy returning to his seat during turbulence.
3) On Virgin America you can order snacks and beverages to your seat via your touchscreen, so that is moot.
Stand up for something you believe in.
back when i didn't get nauseous on planes, i would love the window seat to see to the ground below. now i'm all about the aisle seat so i'm not cramped and at the mercy of strangers to get out (though you do have to deal with the beverage cart coming by and people banging into you on their way to the bathroom).
even still, i only would deal with a window seat these days if i was travelling with people i knew and they were in the seats between me and the aisle.
