QOTD

Do you like to be called Mrs. Last Name?

Re: QOTD

  • Only by my husband. From anyone else, I think I feel old, but I don't really remember anyone calling me this aside from around the wedding time.

  • No one calls me by it, so I don't know. LOL At work they still call me Six. Or just Foster.
  • I actually don't.  I would rather use the term Ms.  Mrs. sounds too matronly to me.  I am sure others disagree.  The solicitation mailing labels (like St. Jude's or ADA) always come with Ms on them because when I made the donation I marked Ms. not Mrs.  Why does this come up?  I am mailing a thank you note and wondered if I am the only one.

  • I don't mind at all.  What I do strongly dislike is Mrs. [husband's name] [Lastname].

I have my own name and I'm my own person. For some reason Mrs. M. R. makes me feel like property.  lol!  We all have our own quirks, right?

  • Nope, I actually hate it! I actually just like my name and actually miss my maiden name. I absolutely despise being called Mrs. (Dh's first name and last)...yuck!! I have a name! DH used to introduce me as his wife too and forget to give me a name, so we had words about that. They assume I am his wife, they need to know my name! I am weird though too because I have never been called by my full name (Allison) and when I hear that name my skin crawls!
  • It does make me feel old, but I don't mind it too bad, it's respectful.  Like PP, I do hate Mrs. (His 1st)(Last) but most people know I call the shots and our friends don't go there. LOL!
  • Depends on who it is.  If it is someone that does not know me. I do not like it at all.  There is a guy at work who calls me Mrs (B) and it does not bother me to much.  I can not stand to be called miss or ma'am

  • It all depends on the situation.   For the most part I don't mind.   I don't particularly care for Mrs. DH's Name Last Name unless it's on a wedding invitation or something like that.
  • I can't remember the last time I was called that, the neighborhood kids all just call me Miss Jaime.  It wouldn't bother me to hear mrs.last name, but I don't think it ever comes up. I'm pretty sure I've never heard mrs. adam last name.

Same here... I detest being called 'Susan' or 'Sue' - yuck; that's not me.

As for the original question, I can't even think of the last time anyone has called me Mrs. Last Name -- and I've never had anyone call me Mrs. (His First) (Our Last)... though I've never cared much for that.  My grandma ALWAYS referred to herself in that way, however.  She was very proud to be grandpa's wife and seemed to feel strongly about that "traditional" reference.

  • No.  DH and I had a big fight before we got married, I didn't want to change my name because it was part of my identity and I loved it, he felt I didn't love him if I wasn't willing to take his name.  Eventually we compromised and I hyphenated it, but I very rarely use my married last name unless I have to on legal documents, etc.

It irks me when people call me by DH's last name, one because it's not my last name and two, I am a person in and of myself I am not simply something that belongs to my husband.  This rarely is an issue but it does try my patience when it happens.

  • I don't mind.  I like that people can pronounce and spell this name as opposed to my maiden name.

I H.A.T.E being called Mrs. DH Lastname.  I have a lovely first name.  I really only have one older aunt who does so, but it gets me every time.  Especially since she doesn't go by that at all.  And none of my correspondence to her indicated I wanted to be Mrs.DH Lastname.

I don't care about Ms.Mrs.  Just use a term of respect and mean it.  I have gotten a few sales calls/charity calls at our house here, where the caller asks for my parents. I point blank have told them that I own the home, am over 25 and they will never receive $ from us, and to take us off their list.  Heck, even asking for the homeowner is better than asking for my parents.

  • Love it! My husband is really the only one who does it anymore though.
