Soap Nuts??

Does any of you ladies use them, and where do you buy them other then Amazon.com.  If you can only find them on-line, which seller do you recommend.  Also how do you know when the nuts are finished releasing their soap, and it's time for a new batch?

Re: Soap Nuts??

  • I have no idea how well these work but I have seen them at our local food co-op and was interested, too.
  • I'm a lurker on this board, but I've used them. They work wonderfully, you just need to add an oxi cleaning product to your whites as there's no bleach in them, obviously and they can get a little dull.

Depending on how hot your water is you can use them a couple of times and you can pretty much tell that they're worked out, they kinda dry out, if that makes any sense (even though depending on the seller they might be dry to start with, they'll look different).

They worked really really well for me. I live overseas and buy them online here, so I have no seller recommendation. The only reason I don't use them for everything anymore, is that I learned that I'm allergic to the oxi-action stuff (any/every brand) so I only used them for my darks now.

The only thing you'll need to get used to is not having detergent smell anymore. Your laundry will smell 'clean' but not spring or ocean or whatever scent you like-fresh.

Some companies sell small trial packages, that's how I got hooked :-)

  • I will definitely have to try them now.  Although I have seen on Amazon.com the soap berries and soap nut pieces.  So of course, another decision but still..do you use the whole nut or the pieces?  I do understand what you mean by dried out looking.  I know this would be counterproductive, in terms of going ecofriendly, but I think I will still use the fabric softener.
