XP: How to clean a Dyson Animal?

I can't find the manual. I've been vacuuming up diatomaceous earth at my parent's house and I'm gonna have to clean the vacuum. It took me 45 minutes, but I got the upstairs done!Too bad the downstairs is even bigger...And also, everything is covered in a fine layer of this powder. So I'm going to mop and whatnot. I dusted, but the layer is still there! Should I try dry dusting with a swiffer or something?

Re: XP: How to clean a Dyson Animal?

  • There are several Dyson animal models. Which one do you have? Did you go to the Dyson website to get information? I believe you can see manuals there or call customer service to find out the information for your model.

  • I have a Dyson Animal... DC28? I am not sure.  Anyway, basically the whole thing comes apart and you rinse everything really well.  I rinse mine every few uses so that it doesn't get all caked up.  And the filters I think are rinse once a quarter but I'm not sure.

  • I have had my Dyson Animal (the orginal) for six years, and I have taken the whole thing apart and stuck in the shower, even then cyclone housing.  I let everything dry really well for a few days before I put it back together.  You just want to move the cyclone housing a few times to get all of the water out it.  I also didn't use soap, just plain hot water, and I cannot believe how much black sh!t came out of it.  As long as you don't anything with an electrical counterpart from the Dyson in the shower, you will fine!!  Don't forget to wash your filter too!
  • I love my Dyson Animal. We take it apart and clean it with warm water. Let it dry then put it together again. It is great with the pet hair. =) LOVE IT! Good luck

  • I took mine apart and rinsed it with a garden hose.  The set it outside (desert heat) in shade for a day to completely dry.  Worked like new!

I flushed out the entire cyclone part.  There was quite a bit of dirt caked in there which flushed out easily.  I also rinsed the filter (do that a few times per year)
