cat lost her fang :-(

she has just the one on the top now. it looks really weird. i have no idea how it happened. the vet said maybe that's why she stopped eating last month - perhaps it was infected. she has the heart problem so while she needs a dental she can't get one because sh can't be sedated. i just hope the other cats don't start making fun of her.

  • Aw, poor kitty! Did you find it or is it lost in your house? I don't know why, but I'd want to find it so I could see what it looks like out of my cat's mouth!

  • My cat is missing one of hers too!  She actually only has about 3 or 4 teeth left.

It does look funny when she yawns, and sometimes her lip gets pushed up on that side and it looks lopsided.  It just makes me love her even more Smile

  • Poor cat! I have to admit, I laughed at "I just hope the other cats don't make fun of her" also.   Will this cause any problems for her eating?

  • thanks guys for your concerns! i'll pass them on to bella!

kare - yes, i'd love to find it! how else will the tooth fairy come visit? may have to find one on ebay to put under her pillow.

madame - from what i understand they don't really need those teeth in a domestic setting. i think they're mostly for like tearing at a carcus (sp?) in the wild. plus when they barf their dry food is still formed like kibble (sorry tmi) so i get the impression they're not doing much chewing anyway. my vet said her cat had bad teeth and had to have them all removed. even with no teeth he ate even dry food just fine. go figure!

My vet told me the same thing...cats teeth aren't meant for soft food.  They more or less crush what they can with the roof of their mouths, but mostly swallow food whole.

Hope she isn't too bothered by her missing tooth!

thank you! she seems okay... i'm probably more traumatized!

the only thing that might be an issue is you know how she's not spayed because she can't be anesthetized? well she does this thing where she climbs on her bro's back and grabs his neck with her teeth. the vet said she's trying to tell her bro what to do because she wants to be mated (she goes into heat). of course he's fixed so it's just annoying for him. anyway, i don't know if she'll still be able to do that!
