Is this appropriate?

A friend of mine just forwarded my resume to someone who "might" be hiring. My resume is pretty good, but in my opinion I sell myself better with a cover letter. Is it appropriate to e-mail him and tell him more about myself as I would in a cover letter? If so, how soon should I do it (it's literally been about 10 minutes since she sent the resume) and what would you say?

Re: Is this appropriate?

  • I would say wait for a response from the initial submission of your resume and see what happens.

  • Did your friend copy you on the email to this person? If so, then I think it would be appropriate to reply to that email with an additional letter of interest. If not, it might seem weird for you just to email that person out of the blue when they may not see the connection yet. Some people don't check email nearly as much as they should. But if you could do it in a "reply all" fashion, I think it would make sense.
