What are you reading?

I finally ran out books to read. I stocked up at a used book sale a few months ago (30 books for only $7!), but I just finished the last one.

What are you reading?

  • Currently I'm reading The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. I've loved everything by him (esp. I Know This Much is True)

Before that Sarah's Key, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The 19th Wife

Both very good books!  I'm a big fan of historical fiction.

I just read Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah, and have another one of hers lined up.

Um, yeah, it was not pretty.  I was glad I was home alone when I read it, and not out at the beach or something!

  • Just finished re-reading HP7.  Also just finished Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain.

Right now I'm catching up on magazines, I have a few FN and Food and Wine's to read.

Then I plan on starting Anthony Bourdain's Cook's Tour or Omnivore's Dilemma.  I'm also waiting for the new James Patterson book from the library - Now You See Her

  • I just finished "If You Were Here" by Jen Lancaster. Prior to that I read all of Lauren Weisberger's books except "The Devil Wears Prada." I just started "London Is The Best City In America" by Laura Dave.
  • A Clash of Kings, the one that comes after A Game of Thrones. Then I'll read the 3rd, then 4th, then 5th- but I'm far down the lending chain for my friend's H's copy, so I'll have to wait.

Then I want to read Louisa May Alcott's spoof of her time living in a transcendentalist utopian community, after visiting the place last weekend. My mom lent me Mr Emerson's Wife that she said was good (and fits in with the transcendentalist thing, Emerson was good friends with the Alcotts) that's near the top of the list too.

I'm in the middle of An Edible History of Humanity by Tom Standage, but it's hard to read non-fiction (even if it's interesting) in the middle of George Martin books.

On my list for later are Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, World without end (sequel to Pillars of the Earth) and Juliet by Anne Fortier.

  • Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I LOVE this book and am almost done with it. I just can't wrap my head around the things they make these young girls do and how they train them!

Also Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I haven't read it since it came out when I was in middle school, but seeing the hype over the new movie made me want to re-read the entire series again. Since I never read the last book, I have a ton of catching up to do!
