Lord help me if I become this parent! I cannot stand the parents ranting and raving in public about how inconsiderate, lazy, entitled their child is -- to the child! First of all, you raised them...Second of all, if you are this horrible to them in public how are you in private! Eek. Makes me sick. We all get frustrated and I'm sure my kids will really p!ss me off as they grow -- but, you just don't do that.
This brought to you by my trip to Walmart.

Re: Pet Peeve
Totally get what you mean. If the parent didn't raise the kid to be spoiled, it wouldn't be an issue.
I have one to add - my parenting pet peeve is when people throw around empty threats. My friend does it ALL THE TIME and it drives me nuts. Some examples:
'Eat your dinner or no dessert" 20 minutes later only 1 bite is gone, 'ok I guess that is enough' then gives in to dessert. I am pretty sure if they are too full for dinner, they are too full for dessert.
'Stop doing xyz or I am taking your toy away' 10 minutes later after personally yelling at them for doing xyz, she reprimands again, but doesn't take it away.
Etc etc. If you are going to threaten your kid, stand by them otherwise they will know they can walk all over you.
OMG..my friend does this and it drives me so nuts! And she's a teacher and should know better!

How about, "If you stop screaming I'll buy you a milkshake."
One of the jewels I heard while working retail.
Maria - my friend is also a teacher and the other sday she was talking about her students and how she can't back down on threats... Ummmmm HELLO!?!? You do it with your own children every day!
Lacey - nothing like teaching your child that a temper tantrum gets rewarded with sweets!
Ugh I hate this! It is amazing that teachers would be the culprits here but I have found that occasionally as well. Hope I am never caught making this mistake!
Krissy, the parents of the kids I watch do that all the time! It's to the point where the kids know that if they pitch a big enough fit they will be excused from the table and 5 minutes later they'll get candy if they ask.
It annoys me because it makes my job that much harder.
