Help! Shower locations around DSM?

Hey! I am needing some ideas for our wedding shower! I posted this on TK as well, trying to get as many ideas as poss.  We didn't realize everything would be booked 3 mos in advance, but I guess it makes sense! My BMs and MOH have been trying to find a place and finally broke down and asked me for ideas. So, I'm asking you! Thank you!

Re: Help! Shower locations around DSM?

  • need more info.

size of shower/budget/what areas? (dsm, ankeny, etc)

do they want to bring in food or have it catered, etc.

This and where are you having your reception? Sometimes they'll let you have your shower/other events there as well, and could it be on a Sunday?

  • Wedding and Reception is out of town so we cant have it there. We are having the shower before my bachelorette party, so Sunday would probably be bad the next day lol (My MOH is out of town and flying in.  So, getting it all done on the same day!)

Size of shower = appx 30-35 people

Not sure of budget, but under $100 would be good.

Not picky about the area of town!

    We will bring in food

    Date is Sat Oct 1!

  • I would start calling around to golf courses, Toad Holler, Echo Valley, Blank, if you haven't called there yet.

If you're not totally opposed to NOT bringing food in, I'd call Okaboji B&G, All Play, they have a party room. I can't think of the name right now.

Sorry I'll think of more later.

  • I think the All Play party room is called Forte.  They are good, but I believe you have to buy the food from them.  Another place to go if you don't mind purchasing the food at fairly reasonable prices is Mama Lacona's.  They have a party room you can have for free, but you can't bring in outside food.

  • Does anyone live in an apartment complex?  Sometimes you can rent their community rooms for free

  • Nope no one lives in an apt that has a clubhouse.  I tried the golf courses and they are all very expensive ($750+).  Forte is $5,000

    Keep em comin!

  • Check into Raccoon River Nature Lodge. They have really reasonable rates if they aren't booked. I think you can bring your own food in too.

I'd also look into any kind of enclosed shelter at parks.  DSM Park and Recreation web page has rental info on those as well as two community centers, Scott Four Mile and Pioneer Columbus, with rental space available for cheap rates.

  • I would also check the Community Centers of West Des Moines, Ankeny, and any other surrounding suburbs for rates too. The rooms might not be super fancy but they will be cheaper and with the right decor they would be a nice budget friendly solution for your shower.

OH YEAH! The WDM Community Center, is where we had my wedding reception! Call them! It's big, TONS of A/C and I think $200? for so many hours? And you can bring your own food in, there is a small kitchen!

  • There is a park in Waukee right off of Hickman I think it is that we had Olivia's 1st birthday at. The shelter is enclosed with fridge and sink and tables. It was maybe $150 to rent, $50 of that we got back I think. We rented it for the whole day so it might be cheaper if you do a half day. It was perfect for our big party and it was air conditioned/heated. We could bring in any food/drink we wanted. Here is the address, I would just call the Waukee Parks and Rec department if you are interested, they can give you more info.

  • We had my friends at Jasper Winery off of Fleur. You can fit everyone, bring your own food, and if ladies want wine, they can do that too. We had no problem scheduling it two months before the event.
