Weekly Book Post

I'm slacking this week and haven't picked up anything other than a gossip mag, but I figured I'd get the post started anyway!

Re: Weekly Book Post

  • I'm reading Silver Girl by Elin Hildebrand. I'll be reading this one for a little while cause it's like 400 pages long. So far it's pretty good. Just haven't had much time these past few days to do much reading.

  • I'm new to this, but I'm assuming we're posting what we've read. I read "Among the hidden" a few days ago. My younger brother (read: 11. So you kinda get the age group it's aimed for) is writing a paper on it so I read it to help him out; it was a good book and I finished it in about 2 hours. So if you're looking for a quick read and a good read, there's a suggestion!

And I've been reading up on craft fairs if that counts, haha.

  • I am currently reading The forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. It is about a girl who comes from a well to do family in England, but she is taken to Australia at 4 and left all alone after she is off the ship. One of the men working there ends up taking her home. Even after there is a letter sent to the port, the man decides to keep the little girl. She doesn't know the truth till she is 21 and engaged to be married. It basically sends this girl (Nell) into a tailspin. This book takes you through a journey of the grandmother (Nell) finding out about her past, and then her granddaughter trying to trace the steps to her ancestors after her grandmother has passed away. The book is very good, but the author switches between time periods a lot. Thankfully, she does put dates at the beginning of every chapter, but it is not my favorite style of writing.

  • I finished Columbine this weekend.  Very interesting book!

Now I am reading The Brave by Nicholas Evans.  He wrote The Horse Whisperer (which is not my favorite by him, but the most well known).  It is ok so far, but I haven't figured out what the point is yet.  I am only 40 pages into it.

I am also rereading HP7.  This is just for fun.  I wanted to reread it before seeing the movie, but DH and I could not resist seeing it opening night at the drive in when we could see parts 1 and 2 together.

  • I finished Against Medical Advice by James Patterson and Hal Friedman.  It is not a typical James Patterson book.  It is about a boy and his family from the time he is about 4 until he is about 18.  He has Tourette's, anxiety, and OCD.  It is the story of his struggles, challenges, and achievements.  It was really good.  It wasn't depressing either (or as depressing as some I read about children with special needs.) My cousin's wife lent it to me over a year ago and I just read it and am glad to get it back to her.  We are going out of town for our anniversary and I am going to take Heart of the Matter with me.  Been waiting to read it and was going to take it on my girl's trip but got to into Summer in the City so am taking Heart this time!
  • I just finished Jennifer Weiner's new book, Then Came You.  I have liked a bunch of her books, but I didn't particularly love this one. It was hard for me to keep 2 of the characters straight, and I didn't really identify with the characters.

I'm also about halfway through Katie Couric's book, which is cute. It's just short letters of advice from lots of famous people.

I own this book! I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list to get to soon!

  • Last week I read Garden Spells.  It was wonderful!  I'm really liking Sarah Addison Allen's books. I also read Daniel's Gift by Barbara Freethy. It was a sweet story, and a quick read.

I've been thinking of reading Columbine next.  I'm interested in it, but I'm afraid it might be too heavy for me.

Columbine is heavy.  But really interesting!  I recommend it.  I just read another lighter book at the same time so that I had something else too pick up when I needed a break.  I learned a lot about the actual day, the events leading up to it, and the aftermath.
