Pregnancy & Baby Books- your favorites?
A friend let me borrow "What to Expect.." and also "The Complete Book of Breastfeeding". Anyone have any other suggestions?
Re: Pregnancy & Baby Books- your favorites?
I liked Great Expectations, Your Pregnancy Week by Week, and Pregnancy Sucks.
I never read What to Expect because I heard so many people say that it will scare the crap out of you for no good reason.
ditto Week by Week and of course Baby Bargains. Also ditto the "scare the crap out of you" part of What to Expect.
Even if you're working with an OB, I think "Ask a Midwife" was a really useful book, including for the first few weeks post-partum.
This was my bible prepregnancy:
From the Hips
Just kind of a different PG book.
This was my bible for BFing:
New Mother's Guide to BFing
I fixed it.
I ran away from all things serious in terms of reading material. I loved the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. I gave DH the Safe Baby Handling Tips as a preparation gift for Father's Day too- hilarious, though maybe not as helpful.
I think I had the week to week one for both pregnancy and the 1st year from a friend (which is a great place to get books from- how many pregnancy books do you need after you've given birth?!) and it was handy reference for when I had questions. But I didn't follow it religiously or anything.
This exactly - I avoided What to Expect when Expecting for exactly the reasons mentioned, I never even gave it a chance based on friends' advice.
I also enjoyed the humor of Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy.
I'm currently using What to Expect the First Year as a guide for Colby's development. Amazon reviews rate it better than the Week to Week version.
