So, as the time nears, I am getting more and more nervous about delivery. K's delivery wasn't bad at all (water broke at 8 pm, pitocin at midnight, epi at 4 am, and he was here at 11 am). But, the scary thing was that he had the nuchal cord wrapped around his neck twice. He was also jaundice and we had to use the vacuum because his head was stuck. The cord thing makes me nervous, even though I know there is nothing I can do about it (which is probably what makes me most nervous- no control). I am already at a 25 lb weight gain (yikes), so the baby is probably going to be pretty big again, and I am not sure what to do about that in this stage of the game.
My question: what hypno birthing CD's, or videos are good? I am still debating a doula, but not sure if that is what we will do (my DH was kinda offended when I suggested it- even though the nurses have to take more care of him, as hospital 'smells'(the sterile smells) make him want to pass out). Anything else I can use to help me relax and get through this? I really want to try not to have an epi again (yes, tried this the first time, and totally gave in!) and need help with trying to focus and calm myself. I remember Mrs. Tice saying that she covered the clocks, and I am wondering if this is a good start. Any other advice?
Jeez, you would think I haven't done this before!
Re: Hypno-birthing, et al
I'm pretty sure that Tiff (MrsTice) used hypnobirthing, too.
Just an FYI, there are a few other natural chilbirth classes offered in the Des Moines area now. I would be more than happy to send you info. :-)
Also, I have several articles about doulas and dads that I could pass on to you. They might be really great for your hubby to read if you decide to use a doula. A lot of my dad clients usually have some hang-ups at first, but after our first meeting they are usually diggin' the idea of a doula. Here's an article I just posted on my page today: http://ht.ly/5I6Mm

I also have some great articles on fear/anxiety and childbirth -- I highly reccomend you read them.
Also, have you considered prenatal yoga? If not, you should. :-)

You can do it!! I have a CD MrsTice made me that I can send you. It's the HypnoBabies and I'm not sure if there is a set, and which one of the set it is. I never needed another one and it worked for me.
I had a similiar experience: Induced and epi with L and with J I had the birth I wanted, drug free and it was awesome and, dare I say, much easier than L.
I put the cd on my ipod and just listened to it the whole time. At a few times I even responded to the lady. hahahaa.
i think that confidence and positioning make the most difference in most births. i kind of used hypnobirthing with Oliver, and it did really help me (12 hours of pitocin, no pain meds), but what was most helpful was staying out of bed. i didn't use the hypnobirthing for finn.
i only have a second, and could of course go on all day, so if you want to email me i'd be happy to provide you with some suggestions, as well as some more info about how a doula supports fathers! mamastrength at gmail
