I know it's hard to believe that school starts up again next month for some, and in a few weeks for others... I was at Target today and they have a TON of cool teacher stuff in their dollar section. Awards, book marks, stickers, pencils, hall passes, lesson books, grade books, etc. I picked up a bunch of stuff for my teaching practicum this fall and for student teaching in the spring.
My class in the fall is learning to teach math and science (my 2 lest favorite subjects)
I got my syllabus online today from my professor and am trying to think ahead to the semester already, b/c last year was crazy between classes, homework, working 30+ hours per week, the kids schedules, my husbands crazy work schedules. Plus this time around he is moving back home with a new job, and we are probably moving. But anyways... My class is requiring me to come up with a unit for math and a unit for science. I have to teach 4 lessons from each unit. My question for you lovely ladies is do you have any ideas as to what you would do a unit on? I'm not sure what grade I'll be in yet, but I'm just trying to get some ideas together and then I can spend the next 6 weeks researching lesson ideas across the grade levels.
I also have to write a 1page biography in a newsletter... any suggestions on what you'd do or what you'd like to see as a teacher from a teacher candidate (JP) coming into your class for a semester? TIA!!!
Re: To the teachers...
First, thanks for the heads up about Target. I need to watch for black and white composition notebooks on sale cheap!
Second, I read that you don't know the grade level yet. This would really help for giving ideas. What about skills/concepts that you are comfortable with? For math, I would really try to do something that begins using manipulatives. For science, I would do something where students keep a science log or journal. For both subjects, you want to make sure you are incorporating writing and possibly use some good literature. (Can you tell I have been in a writing institute all summer and teach reading???)
Third, in your bio you could include the following:
a little bit about yourself
your interests/hobbies
why you want to teach
experience working with kids
some favorites: on my website I always included my favorite books, food, color, vacation spot, sports teams, and animals
I hope these ideas help. Post again if you need more suggestions.
