Re: Tell me...

  • I've found nothing, except scratching it so hard that it hurts... Then numbing it with Ice. Not the best method out there. It tends to leave scars.

  • I scratch it until it bleeds usually.

Also ammonia will help the itching, as will hydrocortisone.  Benadryl puts me in a coma so I don't notice the itching.

  • What kind of bug bite was it?

    Benadryl Cream

Beandrul pill (not to be taken along with cream)

Clear nail polish applied to the bite. It'll sting initially but then it'll feel oh so good!

Vinegar soaked cotton ball applied to bite

I've heard you can apply a slice of tomato to the bite as well to relieve swelling. Who knows about that working though...

I have no idea what kind of bite. It showed up Sunday morning after we had been at a wedding the night before. It was really small and flat and looked like a scratch and now its HUGE and itchy!!!!

I'll try the vinegar and then maybe the nail polish. Thanks ladies!

  • For mosquito bites I either mark an X in it with my fingernail or put toothpaste on them. I know it sounds kind of wacky, but I feel like it works! Good luck.....I hate itchy bug bites!

  • You could also try a baking soda paste.  That's what I use on Wilson!

Thanks! I'll try anything at this point. E keeps laughing at me because I am sitting on the couch avoiding touching my leg because it itches so badly.

I've done this and it works really well. The mint from the toothpaste helps cool it a bunch.

I smack the area, especially if its on my leg, so that it all stings.  A bit better than the scratching until bleeding, but not a long-term solution.  I hope that one of the other suggestions works better!

  • Vinegar works for me and if it does swell I use the Benadryl cream.

    tea tree oil

Huh.  It makes sense, but I haven't tried it.  We almost always have tea tree oil on hand, so I'll keep that trick in mind!

Our local grocery store has this: http://www.drugstore.com/after-bite-fast-relief-itch-eraser-gentle-kids-cream/qxp81225  the active ingredient is baking soda, and they had an adult version too, with ammonia being the active ingredient.  http://www.drugstore.com/after-bite-the-itch-eraser-for-insect-bites/qxp13120  I bought both because Wilson's mosquito bites swell larger than marbles.  I caught him with his whole back knee inside his mouth, so I'm guessing he was itchy.  The baking soda cream seemed to do the trick, but it did dry out his skin a little.

I used the ammonia one on myself and it did stop the itch!
