wits end...

Bed time is becoming a struggle.  I have been so blessed in the past with a kiddo who goes to bed easily and all of the sudden she'd rather play than go to bed.  We do the same routine EVERY night.  She looks forward to and gets excited about each step ie: bath, brushing teeth.  But when we lay down on the changing table to get her diaper on, all hell breaks loose. She screams bloody murder, turns purple, squirms all over.  Then will stand in her crib and scream for 20 minutes.  She will throw her binky's out of the crib, and say mamamamamamama over and over again.  She NEVER used to do this!

Advice please... please... please...

Re: wits end...

  • Listening intently for advice from others....
  • What time does she go to bed? Maybe the time needs to be adjusted?

The only time my DS screams is when he isn't ready for bed. We will usually wait 20-30 minutes and try again. If he is ready, then he never screams when we put him down.

  • Colin has been doing the same thing so I found this to be helpful: Our routine is similar except we sit and read 3 books while rocking in the chair. After the 3rd, he lays his head against my chest, I turn out the light and we rock for about 10 minutes --- it's not enough to put him to sleep --- but to get him calmed down and relaxed. Then I tell him it's time to get in his bed. He may whine a little when I put him in bed, but then I start his music and close the door behind me. He's usually quiet within minutes. GL!!

  • I think at that age is when we started music, letting her sleep with a blanket and a lovie.
  • Maybe her bedtime needs adjusted?  Does she have any comfort items?  Music?  Mara has to have her white noise machine and her two "nanies" (blankets) to go to bed.  She goes in her room by 7:15 and is out by 7:30 most nights IF she has those things in her room with her.  If not, bad news bears.

Hang in there, it is no fun when the sleep stuff is messed with!

  • Another vote for music & rocking, maybe she would like to have her back rubbed while you rock? Mine have always both liked to rock. Would she like it if you sing her a couple songs?

Good luck, bedtime battles are no bueno for the whole family.
