Hiya,
I am busily working on a business plan for a small business/retail store in DC that I have dreamed about for years and nothing like it currently exists in a metro-accessible location so I'd have a niche. So far, those I have talked to about it have been encouraging and supportive so I am moving forward. Once I get the plan finished, I plan to meet with my local SBA and the Women's Business Center for some guidance. I also want to reach out to successful small business owners I know who have stores that are somewhat similar to what I have in mind.
Anyway, enough background...what I am wondering is if there is anyone here who has started their own business?? What was the experience like? What tips do you have?
I am still early in the research stage so any information is welcomed!! Thanks so much!
Re: Any Small Business Owners Here?
I have no yet started my own business but have also been in the research phase. With that being said I have read some books so far and the two that stand out are:
"Boss of You" by Lauren Bacon and Emira Mears
"Birthing the Elephant" by Karin Abarbanel and Bruce Freeman
I really liked "Birthing the Elephant it is a good 1 day read and it goes from the start to finish of starting the business.
Hope they help! Good Luck!
