B/KOTB: Shampoo

When did you stop using baby shampoo on your kids?

I'm still using baby shampoo on both of mine. I have no idea when I'll stop.  They're both doing fine on it, and I still have 2 big bottles of it, so I'm sticking with it for now.

ETA: I didn't think of this at first, but I'll also take the stinging eyes into consideration.  It's probably best that before I switch, they can wash their own hair and control the suds so they don't drip down into their eyes.

  • I still use baby shampoo on Truitt. He has sensitive skin and eczema and allergies and the whole kit and kaboodle. So, I use the most gentle, chemical free stuff I can find, which is the California Baby unscented. I imagine he'll use it until he is at least 5 (when he can start getting allergy shots that will help with his skin issues).

  • I still have baby shampoo for both girls in their bathroom since Ally uses it and it's easier to use it on Emmy too.

But in the shower, I have a no-tear shampoo (sauve or something like that) it's strawberry scent and when Emmy takes a shower with me sometimes, I use it on her.  That's her big girls shampoo.

  • I think I made the switch with Micaela when she was... 10. LOL Might have been 9.  It was just easier once Kaitlyn came along for them to have the same stuff.  Somewhere between 8-9, Micaela's hair got so thick that the baby/kid stuff just wasn't cutting it anymore and she asked to have her own shampoo and conditioner.

Kaitlyn and Sam share the same kid 2-in-1 stuff.

  • Kid shampoo is still no-tears stuff.

E's hair gets so tangled that I was using tons of spray-in detangler with the baby shampoo. I switched to Suave kids 2 in 1 a couple months ago (Fairy Berry scent - gag, but she picked it), and it does work really well and the conditioner works much better than just detangler.

I use it on DS too because I'm far to lazy/cheap to have more than one kind of shampoo sitting around for them. Poor guy smells like fake strawberries.

  • when they asked for something else.  connor still uses the suave kids stuff.
  • I want to know why all kids shampoo smells awful.  We were looking for something with conditioner for C since he gets tangles so easily.  I think I've smelled them all- blech.

In the end we stuck with baby shampoo and use our conditioner.

  • My Mom continued to buy us Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo until we were in middle school.  Then she switched only because my sister threw a fit about how it wasn't cool.  My logic of "none of your friends watch you shower" did nothing to slow her panic that she would be shunned by her peers.

  • I quit using baby shampoo on Natalie a long time ago, but still use Suave Kids shampoo on her now.

  • Let me think WAY back then... I think she was about 18months - 2 and even then we used the no tears kid shampoo/conditioner in one for her till she was about 8-9.  Then she decided she was done with the kid stuff and wanted more grown up shampoo and conditioner.
