Clicky Poll - help solve a disagreement

My husband hates how I rewash dishes when I give food to someone. If I know you well and have seen your clean kitchen then sure, I won't usually rewash. He thinks that if you can't see food on it, it's clean. I beg to differ. I'm quite anal about my dishes. So, what say you? To rewash or not rewash, that is the question.[Poll]

  • So I want to clarify before I answer, because the wording is confusing me. the situation is this...?

I make a casserole (or whatever) for my friend. She gives me the dish back empty when done, do I wash it before I use it again?

    Yes

  • I always wash. It has nothing to do with the person giving it to me, it's just the way I am. I think it gets dirty in the process of transferring it from their house to my house anyway.

this. especially because often it will be a mil friend, so their H (or them I have a few female service member friends) will give said dish to H at work, then he brings it home. who the helI knows WHAT happened in that transfer?

  • I think it would depend on how long the dish has been at so-and-so's house before they return it to me. If my best friend gave me a dish a day after she took it from me, and it was clean, I'd just shelf it. If it had been a month, I'd probably re-wash, because you just never know where they had it in their house, collecting dust and whatever else, waiting to be returned.

If it was someone I don't know well I would probably re-wash regardless.

I always would just assume someone farted bareass on it. Better safe than sorry.

The only time I don't rewash is when my best friend here on base washes it. We live mere houses away and I trust her.

  • I always rewash if I use my dishes.  I try to use paper plates and the disposable aluminum pans when possible so I don't even have to worry about it.

  • I usually re-wash if it's been a while since they had it or if it looks dusty.

  • I always rewash. Like PP's have said. It doesn't matter how well I know the friend, I don't trust that whatever germs are lurking in the transfer process haven't gotten onto the dish. It goes straight to the dishwasher, no questions asked.

ETA: I rewrote that to make more sense.

This, plus im not a fan of using or eating off a dish that was washed in dirty water. Id rather rewash than take my chances.

  • If its seems like it might be dirty, I'll rewash. Otherwise, back in the cupboard you go.
