Would you hire me?

I graduated from college in May 2010. I had a full time job when I graduated in my field, however, it was over an hour+ from my home, family, and friends. In January a position opened up back at home that was also in my field. However, now that I have worked there, the position is not what I thought it would be an I am unhappy. Another position has opened up in my field and I would like to apply for it... but I am worried that I am moving jobs too much too soon. I feel and HR professional would look at my short term jobs and moving around and think negatively... any advice?? Should I still apply? Do I even have a chance? I am more than qualified for the position and it would most likely be more money... help! Any encouragment is needed... I really need to get out of my current job - very unhappy!

Re: Would you hire me?

  • Well, yes, absolutely APPLY!

Past that - you're talking 2 jobs in just over a year.  The first you can obviously say it was too far, and the second wasn't the right fit.  It not being the right fit can happen to the best of us.

As you just graduated, if you were impressive enough in your interview, I don't think the above would really concern me too much.

But be prepared to explain to them why you "know" this job will be the right fit.  They might ask something along these lines.

And really do make sure that this really is the right move for you!  Use the interview for yourself too- find out as much as you can about the job and the company and be sure it's a move that makes sense.

Because if you take the job and were to come back here in 6 months and basically ask this same question but now you have a 3rd short term job on your resume, I would have more reservations about hiring you.
