Re: POLL: Do you use speakerphone?

  • I don't use it at work (cube-ville), I sometimes use it at home if I'm in the middle of something like cooking, and my car has hands-free bluetooth so I ALWAYS use it in the car.  I guess I'm a special case!
  • I don't, but my parents use it ALL THE TIME.  For every single call.  Most of the time, I just hear all the weird background noises.  I find it kind of annoying.  I've seen them do it, and they'll hold the cordless phone a foot out from their face and talk into it, even when they're the only one talking (so, not like my mom and dad both talking to the person on the other end at the same time).  I don't get it.

I'd probably like talking on the phone more if I had a bluetooth. Does anyone else not like talking on the phone?

I hate speaker phones. I think it's incredibly rude and disrespectful to the person/people on the other end of the call. Get a headset if you don't want to hold the phone.

And yes, in general, I hate talking on the phone, except to a few select people. It's funny because as a teenager (pre cell phones) my mom couldn't get me off the phone. I was on that thing all.the.time. For hours and hours on end. *shakes head* My how things change.

  • I HATE when people call on speaker. I have no problem if we do basic greetings and then ask if it is okay to be put on speaker. DH was OOT a few weeks ago. I would first answer the call and then put it on speaker so Mollie could hear him.

The only time I think it is okay to call someone on speaker is if it has been set up as a conference call and both parties have agreed.

  • I also hate when people dial on speaker but pick it up as soon as I answer. Thank you, I loved hearing the phone rattle in my ear. Oh, by the way, who is this because I missed is as you were picking up the handle.

Me.  I loathe the phone.  I'd much rather email.  I realize that the phone may be faster for some things, but I just don't like it and always feel like I'm tripping over my words.  The exception is talking to my husband, parents and siblings.  I don't even like talking to friends on the phone.

  • I have to at work. I run meetings every weekday mornings with all the doctors I work with and the entire care management team for our patient unit. They can't always come in person, so a lot of our convos with them are done on speaker phone while we sit and take notes at a giant conference table.

If I'm just at home, nope. I don't do speaker on either our landline or my cell. I can't stand the feedback and it's incredibly hard to hear. I wish my parents would understand this when I call them and they put me on speaker.

Yes I don't like talking on the phone outside of work. About 75% of my day is spent on the phone (I do have a headset) so the last thing I want to do when I leave work is talk on the phone. Almost everyone (even my mom) text me unless it's something important.

  • I use the speaker phone when I'm on the phone with our IT people all the time at work...its more like a conference call and sometimes I have to use other things than my computer or go look things up in our tech file so that helps.

At home Ian loves to call nana and papa and I put it on speaker phone because he likes to play with the buttons so I hold the phone and let him talk.  If I handed him the phone he'd call Guam :)

  • I do for work when I'm talking to a client who doesn't speak English fluently and I have a translator sitting next to me or when the client is with me and we need to make a call where we both need to hear/speak.  I try to avoid it other than that because I worry the person can't hear me.

  • I use it occasionally while driving so I can use 2 hands to drive.  I will use it at home too while cooking dinner or changing DD's diaper.  I would never use it in public.  In general I don't use my cell in public.
