College Park area midwives and doula?
This may be a long shot, but thought I would try....
We are moving for October 1st to the College Park area and will be in need of a midwife and doula. We are not really familiar with the area and will be moving with a 15 month old, so ideally we would like to have a midwife set up well before we get to MD (we will be doing 3 trips there before the official move.) I'm open to a birth center or hospital birth.
Any good suggestions (or recs on who to stay away from) in the area? I would like as close as possible, but will go up to 30 minutes drive time with traffic-we had a very fast labor with #1.

I can't help you w/ providers in CP. There is no hospital in College Park. A friend of mine who lives in Greenbelt (v. close to CP) went to Bay Area Midwifery which is in Annapolis. I had my DS w/ Bay Area (at their birth center which is on the grounds of AAMC) and had a very nice experience. We did not use a doula.
I know that a birth center (run by midwives) was supposed to open in Takoma Park, which isn't far from CP, but the lead midwife was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident- and it's hard to tell from their website- http://www.seasonsoflifebirthcenter.org/default.html
what the current status is. I would probably call around to see what is happening there.
I know that GW hospital in DC had a midwifery practice that delivers babies there.
You might want to post on the DC Bump board, since College Park is inside the DC Beltway.
