has anyone seen this show yet?!?! OMG I am watching it now on demand and I cant stop crying...
I love these stories so much, especially the ones with the kids...
Re: surprise homecoming...
I've been watching it. The one from this week I was bawling....the story with the kids was so amazing. My husband called from work while I was watching it, and immediately was like "OMG! What's wrong? Who's hurt? Who died?" Nope honey, just watching soldiers coming home!
I think for me it really hits a spot, because my best friend (she was my MOH) was deployed to Iraq for 18 months in 2005-2006. I remember her coming home like it was yesterday, and I knew when she was coming. I can only imagine how much better it is to be surprised!!
I just watched the one with the dad surprising the kids at disney/the bridal shower....
Im about to watch the school assembly one now
oh how sweet...care to share
I watched a rerun last night at 11pm when I couldn't sleep....I did pretty well and only cried at the last one when the dad (the soldier) met his 6mo. old baby girl for the first time.
And please share the story of your surprise, Val!!
Ok ok! It's a good one
Derek was deployed back in 2006 to the Horn of Africa, and was scheduled to be gone from that June until April/May of 2007, which meant he would be overseas for Christmas. Bummer, I know.
I was in my Sophomore year at Pitt.
I came home for winter break and got a phone call from Derek's sister, who had recently gotten engaged. She wanted to see if I wanted to go get my bridesmaid's dress for her wedding and then hang out for a bit after. She told me she'd call me and let me know what time and we'd meet at her parent's house. That day we had an enormous amount of fog that pretty much covered a good chunk of the East coast, and it was making driving conditions difficult, so a lot of businesses closed early and flights were delayed, diverted or cancelled. When I got to Derek's parent's house, his sister told me that David's Bridal had closed early because of the fog, but we were going to hang and watch a movie anyway so it wasn't a big deal.
Derek's brother came over to "visit" his parents that night too, and he kept leaving to go answer the phone...which I thought nothing of. Then all of the sudden he walks in the living room, hands his mom the phone and says it's Derek calling. I was super relieved because I hadn't heard from him, not even an E-mail, in several days which wasn't like him. His mom announced that he was in Washington DC. WHATTTTT???????
Derek has arranged mid-deployment R&R to happen over the holidays, and the reason I hadn't heard from him was because he was traveling! His flight had been diverted to DC because of the fog, but the passenger next to him was so touched by Derek's story, and was heading up to PA anyway, so he rented a car and drove Derek the rest of the way home. Derek arrived home to me in tears and jumping on him at 3:00 in the morning...and we got to spend our Christmas together
aww Val that is such a cute story!
I have never seen that show but I'm pretty sure if I did I would be crying like a little baby.
