I'm writing a cover letter for my resume, which the recipient has requested be sent by email. The recipient is not someone I have ever met, and I can't find a picture or info (beyond confirmation that this person does have a position at the company) through google. His/Her first name is "Jamie". How do I address this? I feel like "Dear Sir or Madame" is weird since I clearly know the person's name - it's in the email address. Do I write "Dear Jamie Lastname"? Is that formal enough?
Re: cover letter... gender?

Did you try looking for this person on Linkedin? There could possibly be a picture or maybe even a recommendation from someone that indicates gender.
Thanks everyone. I was never going to go with Dear Sir alone... I usually do Dear Mr/Ms/Dr Lastname, though. It seems more formal than Dear Firstname Lastname somehow. I only do Dear Sir or Madame if the company hasn't given a contact name. (That's pretty rare. I can usually find someone to address it to)
Why couldn't he/she have gotten a doctorate? Totally solve all my problems.
I went with Dear Jamie Lastname.
Linkedin was one I hadn't tried... but no luck. There are two Jamie Lastnames on Facebook. Of course, there is one of each gender, and they both have private profiles.
I would make a horrible spy.
