I know BabyRN is doing this program now - not sure if anyone else is currently doing, but I'm pretty sure others have done it in the past.
First of all - tell me it gets easier! I know it's patethic that I'm struggling this early on in the program (week 3) but I HATE running and this is a true test to my will-power as there are 98 other things I'd rather be doing.
Second - With the craziness that is my life, I've been struggling to get 3 consistent days to get a "week" in. Do you think it will have a huge impact in the long term goal/training if I'm going 3 days in between running. I'm trying to get it in as close as possible, but with weekend trips and crazy kids...sometimes the days get far between.
Thanks!
Re: C25K
It definitely gets easier. The first two weeks were horrible for me and by the time I was done I was running 3.5 miles a morning four times a week. Shortly before getting pregnant I was upping mileage even from there. I absolutely hate running until I pass the one mile mark, then it gets easier. Its always been that way for some reason and even in the midst of consistently running 3 miles the first mile always has me wanting to quit.
I think any running you are doing is great. It will take longer to get through the program, but as long as you are being somewhat consistent I would say keep with it!
I started back in November, then fell off the wagon in March. I think I got to week 6. I started again a few weeks ago. It's been really hard for me lately because our treadmill is in our garage and it's just been way too hot to use it. In the meantime, I'm doing the 30 day shred.
It does get easier. The first week that I had a 5 min run, I seriously thought I was going to die. For me it got easier to slow down my speed a bit and just focus on getting through the time. I hate running too and some days it's a real struggle to find the time and get motivated. Some good tunes on Pandora always help. Whenever I don't get in 3 runs a week (of if I do, but it's still a struggle to get through them) I stay on that week until I feel ready to progress.
Good luck!
I would highly recommend this. I haven't done this program but I've found if I slow down my speed just by a few tenths of a mile per hour I can go 1/3 longer with no extra effort. A good running playlist on my IPOD always helped to. :-)
I have one more day left of week 8. I really think it does get easier. I agree that during the longer runs you should slow down a bit, I do that and it helps me get through the entire time. Right now my goal is to run so many minutes without stopping, then I will work on speed.
I did end up stopping for a few weeks back in May which was a mistake, when I got back to it I had to back track a few weeks. I am so excited to "graduate" next month. When I am running now at first sometimes I want to quit but then after I have run a mile or so I don't want to stop! I am starting to feel like a runner and I love it! Plus, I never thought I would be able to run 30 minutes straight and I just did that this weekend.
Good luck!!
ETA: To actually answer some of your questions... I don't always do every other day either. On the days I work my 3 12 hour shifts in a row the last thing I want to do is work out. Each week I run every other day on my days off and then skip a few days when I have to work. Its been working fine for me. I am also doing the 30 Day Shred every day
And don't feel bad that you are struggling already. I am embarrassed to admit this, but I struggled in week one even! My advice is to keep trying to move on each week, even if you don't think you can do it. So many times I surprised myself by being able to move on when I didn't think I would be able to.
