Hi, so I'm moving up to the Bangor area at the end of the summer, anybody from around there have any suggestions of things to do for fun, good places to eat, and such?
Re: New to Maine
I'm not from Bangor, but my tip is to stick around the Nestie board. The ladies here are fabulous and, even though we are spread out around the state (and country), I think it's like all of your girlfriends all together. We even have GTGs pretty regularly!
Congratulations on the move! I hope it goes nice and smooth for you and your family.
Congrats on the big move!
Some great restaurants
Sea Dog - they have their own beer (H and I especially love the blueberry)
Paddy Murphys
I haven't been but a lot of my sushi loving friends love Green Tea or Ichiban
Kostas just across the river in Brewer is pretty good as well.
The Orono Bog Boardwalk and Bangor City Forest has a nice walking trail. (H and I had one of our first dates there)
They have been bringing some great acts to the Bangor Waterfront this year, I would keep an eye on who is going to be coming!
Welcome! I live about 30 min south of Bangor. I don't go up there often as I work to the south, but I would have recommended all the above things as well.
I'm also no help with the area, but welcome to the board!
DH and I moved to Portland about a year ago and we're loving it...best decision we've made. Good luck with the move!
I would like to agree and add:
Pepino's Mexican on Stillwater Ave, behind the Harley place.
Captain Nick's (Union St, mostly blue haired; early eaters, but good food)
McLaughlin's (Main St, open in the summer, burger/seafood stand)
Nicky's Diner on Union St.
Asian Palace II
Woodman's up in Orono and City Park Grill in Old Town are good too.
Down in Newport - Cervesas and The Front Porch
Yes! I miss Woodman's flirtini so so so much!
I haven't been to the City Park Grille in awhile, the head chef that was there when I worked there, now has his own place Chase's Family Restaurant and Hideaway Lounge. I've never been but that may be worth checking out as well!
HI! I wanted to respond this morning but I had to get to work
The girls came up with some good stuff, but Asian Palace makes me sick so IMHO, Oriental Jade is better or China Light if you want really greasy but really good, take out. I don't eat seafood, but I know the guy who owns McLaughlin's so I would've sent you there
And I just ate at Cervesas last week and it was lousy, but a good friend always raves about it.
I'm a chain restaurant kind of girl, but I love Margarita's (they are a New England based change) in Orono, near Woodman's Grill. Don't forget Geaghan's! They are on Main St way down by Hollywood Slots.
Good cheap pizza is Spanky's (buy 1 get 2 free, pick up only, one toppings).
For walking, there is the City Forest out by the mall.
Really? That place looks so sketch, but maybe I'll have to give it a try.
You would disagree
I have loved AP since I was little bitty and they were in Houlton. OJs is ok, I seem to have decent luck, but the rest of my family seems to get crappy meals there. I don't like China Light, there is nothing light about the amount of grease they pack into the dishes. BoBo's is gross too. Happy China is ok.
My mom is not a fan of Cervesas either, I only get the Baja burger or the Southwest chicken wrap. It's not Mexican food for sure.
I forgot about Spanky's. I have never had it, but a wonderful co-worker used to live 3 or 4 houses up the hill from them and kept trying to write them off for screwing up her order so many times, but she couldn't walk away - too cheap, too close.
My grandfather like Tri-City Pizza - but I haven't had it.
I FORGOT DYSART'S!!

Like I said, I've never been but the owner was the chef at City Park Grille when I worked there. He did a great job when he was there. I suppose that making good food doesn't necessarily translate into manages a great restaurant.
Awesome, so many suggestions!!! Thanks so much!
