PCSing and Pregnant Question ...

Hi ladies,

My DH and I are set to PCS from Fort Campbell (KY-North Region) to Fort Lewis (WA-West Region) and I am 21 weeks pregnant and have Tricare Prime.  How do I go about getting a new OB in WA?  PLEASE dont tell me that I have to start all over by waiting for an appointment for a PCM, then waiting for a referral for an OB, and then waiting for a new patient appointment with the OB.

Is there any way around starting from scratch and possibly not seeing a doctor for two months when I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant and high risk?  Makes me SO nervous.Ick!  I have my OB appointment tomorrow so I was going to ask them, but I figured they cant do much since WA is out of their region.

Any help would be great!  Thanks!

Re: PCSing and Pregnant Question ...

  • When I PCS'd pregnant I went to the records department of the MTF got a copy and brought it to my new MTF and they sent me to the OB. IDK what you do if your seen off base. I'd imagine you should ask tricare, not your doc though.

  • I just PSC'd at the beginning of July.  I went in the first business day after we got here and got Tricare switched and then I went to the local MTF to get my OB referral.  I had my first appointment scheduled before the end of the day.

  • Unfortunately, I had to start all over. New patient appointment with my new pcm, referral to ob and then make appt with my new ob. It was about a month until I finally was able to see my ob because my pcm didn't have any new patient appointments open for weeks. But once I had the referral it was a fast process. It might not take that long for you if your pcm can see you quickly, I would defnitely mention that you're high risk.

Oh and I see a pcm off base. Not sure how it would work if you go to an MTF.

  • I'm PCSing at 30 weeks from overseas and I'll have to go through the referral process because the base we're headed to does not provide OB care, just a basic family clinic. It's a pain but that's just life and it's not exclusive to Tricare. My MIL is an OB and she had a nurse who was pregnant, went to her husband's insurance plan, and at 35 weeks had to pee in a cup as proof of her pregnancy. No lie.

Ask your doc, call Ft. Lewis and ask what their protocol is (as far as being seen on base.)  Oh, and HAND CARRY your medical records.
