Dog ladies..help please

Juno has a hot spot on her left front leg.  Should I try and treat this at home or just take her to the vet?

If I can treat it at home, what do I need to do to it to get it to heal and not have her constantly lick at it?

Re: Dog ladies..help please

  • The only thing that prevents my dogs from licking at things is the dreaded e-collar. If it doesn't look too bad, I would try that for a few days and see if it starts healing. They get infected easily though, so if there's any chance of that, go ahead and take him in.
  • We go through this with Cosmo every summer. The only thing that works is the Elizabethan collar.

  • Thanks ladies!  I asked Dh to get an e-collar for her on his way home.  Of course he didn't saying that Juno didn't like wearing one.  Well duh, I don't know any dog that like wearing one!  Anywho, we cleaned it last night and gave her some benedryl the spot is looking better this AM.  I will continue to watch her to make sure it is healing and she doesn't lick at it.

  • Toby has had two get infected, so we make the trip to the vet.
  • We have spray that the vet gave us that helps it heal quicker - it's called gentocin.  Buddy has pretty severe anxiety so we always have it on hand.
