Ah! I picked up our travel documents for our honeymoon to Mexico in about two weeks! I'm excited, but starting to get really nervous. I hate airplanes, and DH has only ridden on one once when he was in third grade, so he's counting on me to know what to do when it comes to airline travel; little does he know that when in an airport, I tend to zone out due to fear. I've flown quite a bit, but really never paid too much attention to everything involved in boarding and customs since I've always gone with a more experienced traveler. Now I'm the more experienced traveler and feel totally freaked out!
Our TA told me today that no matter who tries to approach me, when we get off our plane in Cancun, we talk to nobody and go straight for the Apples Vacation shuttle. I guess people bombard travelers with timeshare presentations and stuff when they get out of the airport... I'm feeling so overwhelmed! Any advice?
Re: Got our tickets to Mexico!
It's not that bad...but there are a bunch of people who will try to sell you different packages and what not in the airport. However, that's after you get out of customs. Right after all that is the door to paradise. It's not as bad as you might think...just keep your eyes on the door and don't make eye contact with them...if they approach you or try to get your attention just ignore it. DH and I went to Cancun for our honeymoon at the end of last Aug. They warned us on the plane about those people as well.
The shuttles outside the airport are pretty well organized and everyone there is super helpful...so don't be afraid to ask. :-) You're going to have an AMAZING time!!! :-D Just take a deep breath and take each task one step at a time. :-)
How exciting-Mexico! Remember to check and double check your documents before you leave for the airport-boarding passes, passport, ID. I've seen it recommended to leave a copy of documents at home-ex. passport, credit card- in case you lose it when you are away-even better if you can leave the copy with someone you trust.
Leave yourself PLENTY of time to get to airport, especially with international flights. You don't need the extra stress of traffic or leaving late while getting to the airport. I've been through it and it is not fun.
If you zone out in the airport- be sure to sit by the gate so you don't miss your flight being called. I just saw a friend on FB say she was at the airport waiting for a flight, but was in "la la land" and almost missed her flight-lol.
I would pack a bathing suit, pajamas, change of clothes in your carry-on in case your luggage gets lost.
When you get souvenirs in Cancun-you can also haggle with them.
