Do you need a hands free bra/bustier?
any reason you can't just put the flanges through a nursing bra?
Re: dumb pumping question
No. You don't need it, but some women find it easier. I just didn't want the hastle of switching bras twice a day just to pump. I actually put the flanges on the girls with the nursing cups unclipped and used the nursing bra cups to sort of hold the flanges in place. Once I got the suction going on the pump they stayed pretty well and I was able to make adjustments to positioning of the flanges as needed. I couldn't get up and walk around or do a lot while pumping, but I could sit and surf the net, read, or be on my phone.
There is also a rubber band trick you can try using two rubber bands in a figure 8. One ends loops around the flange between the flange and membrane part and the other loop hooks onto the clip on your nursing bra. This trick never worked for me. The rubber bands pulled the flanges up to high, and I would leak milk out the bottom.
I've also just used one arm pressed gently across my chest against the pump parts to hold them in place once pumping b/c really the suction helps hold them steady for the most part.

good to know. i figured switching bras would be a pain too. thanks!
do you guys know how the bras at motherhood maternity run? C wants the S/M/L variety (mostly b/c the sized ones don't come in racerback) and she's right on the edge of M/L on the chart since she's kind of between band sizes.
I don't know about the MH bras, but is she on the cusp at her current size? I don't know about other women, but I didn't grow a lot during the pregnancy and then grew two cup sizes when my milk came in (1/2 cup size due to engorgement at the beginning). A lot of girls recommended just buying a couple cheap ones to start until they calm down to normal size.

At her current size (up two cups and a band from before), no, but honestly I think her bras are too small again and she just doesn't care that much
I think I'll go up a size. I figured I'd get her a couple of different ones and am definitely buying cheapos till we see if nursing works out. I wish she'd handle this herself but bra shopping is like nails on a chalkboard apparently. She is still griping she is no longer a 34A.
Thanks!

I use MH bras, but for the everday bras I use (with underwires) they come in actual bra sizes. I do use their sleep bras in s/m/l and I went with the large. I moved from a C to a D when pregnant and my band size moved from 36 to 38. I'm not sure how the sleep bras compare to the racer back styled ones. I can say that I spilled out of my 38D nursing bras for the first two weeks of nursing, but I only left the house in those early days just to go to the pedi's office or Target, so wearing a sleep bra in public (they still fit) wasn't an issue to me. I am el cheapo and didn't want to spend money on a bigger bra that I wouldn't wear very long.
I know some moms go back to their pre-baby size, and some end up smaller, but C should be forewarned that her A's may actually stay bigger. I was a B cup before my son and went to a C while pregnant and didn't nurse him (obviously) and stayed at a C after his birth. I moved up to a D with my pregnancy with M and have so far stayed there. I am still nursing but it's minimal at most and I don't think I'm going to go back to a C. I REALLY hope this trend doesn't continue with the two more babies we hope to have...I can't imagine being an E or higher.
I did this and then just wore front close bras most of the time so I would take off my shirt, pull on the sports bra,pop in the flanges and then unhook my bra turn on the suction and go. I had enough room in my pump case to store my "pumping bra"
