Dog Boarding Needed

I'm in a pinch, I did not properly plan to board our pet (we leave tomorrow) and Petsmart won't take him unless he had his kennel cough vaccine 48 hours ahead of time.  I'm guessing this is standard?  Or can he get it today and be boarded tonight?  Anyone know?  I am so screwed (and it's my own fault).  Ugh!

Re: Dog Boarding Needed

  • That's usually pretty standard to protect all the animals. If my dog wasn't so mean I'd offer to help out.

  • can you get the vacc. then have your parents drop him off tomorrow?

  • I know of a girl that works at one of the boarding places.  My mom has hired her in the past to stay at my mom's house and take care of her dog.  She is actually watching mine and my mom's dog when we go on vacation in a couple of weeks.  She charges $30/day to house sit/pet sit.  Let me know if you want her info.

  • We leave at 6am (the entire family) tomorrow, hence the problem with no dog sitter.  I was going to get it today and drop him off this evening, but they said 48 hours.  :(

I've asked a few friends, hopefully someone pans out.

My parents usually watch him, which is why I usually don't have to think about this.  But duh, when they are going on the trip too, not an option!

Cheezus- my dog is great with kids, but horrible with other dogs.  He's got little man syndrome and thinks he's tough. ;)

  • I'd be more than happy to help you out and come over a few times a day or take him to the boarding place. I am super close! =)

Otherwise ones that I know... Ralston Animal Hospital, Bark Avenue (my step sister works there)

Married 5/14/07 Momma to two amazing boys 6/20/08 & 11/20/09
  • I think it is pretty standard. FWIW- we board our dog at the Petsmart pethotel and really like it. They went above and beyond when our older GSD got sick 3 years ago and first presented symptoms there (he had cancer and we didn't know it).

  • Crisis averted - phew!  We have a friend coming over.  Thanks for all the suggestions.

Note to self, do not forget the pup next time the entire family is leaving town.  Sometimes I'm an airhead.  ;)

I've done this before too...both DH & I were travelling for work the same week and neither of us made plans for the pooch. It all worked out but we were definately not up for Dog Parents of the Year! Glad you got it figured out.

  • Glad you got it worked out. I was freaking out on Monday cause we leave tomorrow and every place was either booked or wouldn't do our dogs insulin injections.  We are going to Morgan Pet Clinic.
